And if you're thinking about Madden in January, the marketing department has done it's job.
That doesn't even make sense.

There are people that here regularly (myself included) regardless if there is an "announcement" or not.

Let me rephrase that. The fact that you're a member on the Madden forum. What I'm saying is if you care enough about the game to join a forum and post on it, then news like this will get you thinking about it. Most would just ignore it and say ok, but for someone that cares about what happens with Madden enough to join/post in a forum, it get's them thinking about it.

I think you thought I meant he was just here because of the "announcement". Actually I meant the opposite. He's here all the time so an announcement like that would have more effect on someone like him and me than it would on someone else.

Well, technically the news starts flowing around this time of year, specifically next month. I do see what you're saying, but I think we should be thankful for this little tidbit this early. This news is weird though. Some people take it as bad news and some are looking at the possibilities of true innovations to Madden. It's all speculation, but it is not wise to jump the gun this early.

All the CEO had to say is "innovative and new take on Madden" and it's got all of us wondering and guessing and some, like myself, "jumping to conclusions" lol. Noticed I said all of us, because even if you don't think it's gonna be a bad thing like some of us do, you're wondering what it could be. Geniuses!!! Madden 11 FTW!!! lol
^ This guy gets it. The speculation may be right or wrong, but the fact is, EA wants us speculating. If they wanted to, they could end the speculation. But why do companies do things like this; tell us that there is some intriguing info coming out and then hold on to it for months? Because they want people talking about it.

I may be wrong here, but from what I remember, sales picked up considerably and the PS3 and Xbox 360 sales of M10 ended up ahead of M09 for the first 5 months. Slow start, fast finish.

The PS2 and Wii sales were way down, but I don't think those platforms are relevant to the community represented in these forums.

NCAA Basketball. The TV broadcast implementation was fantastic. This would be my guess for Madden as well. Hopefully Peter Moore has gotten over his goal of having EA Sports thought of in the same light as ESPN and Fox Sports etc. And we can have ESPN and CBS in all of EA's games...

I think that a really well executed telecast package would help EA shift some units.

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

Honestly guys, I think only good can come of this. I am as sim as they come, but anything to make the same old boring gameplay better I am all for. If they make it straight up arcade with flames shooting out the ball and trails on the person running the ball then I'm out, but I honestly think that will not be the case.

Re: EA CEO Speaks of an Innovative and New Take on Madden?

I think it means another product.
This year we got another Madden product in Madden Arcade. When he says new take, it could mean another new product. If you have an exclusive license, you slice it and dice it as many ways as you can to try and reach more consumers. Remember the rumors about Madden NFL Trainer. Think about all those motion like opportunities. It's going to be a mini-game based product that teaches the techniques of playing pro football. Passing, catching, tackling, kicking, all can be done with these new controller modes coming this holiday season.
I do have some ideas I'd like to see happen.
Here is a number to think about. Over 150 million americans (including a lot of women) play fantasy football. What if this new take on Madden was allowing people to take their fantasy football teams from ESPN and play them in game. What if there was another "season" of the NFL after it ended, that was pure Madden gameplay, that allowed you to carry your fantasy football team over from the regular season into the second season. I admit that is a concept I pitched to EA last year. After the season ends, a second season would begin and we would have NFL players representing their franchises each week. We'd get one MNF type game at the home team players "crib". We see highlights from the rest of the games during the half time show. The stats from these games would carry over to your fantasy team that you had during the regular season, or draft a whole new team.
The show would allow the NFL players who play to represent and show off their personalities. It could also pit players against fans to give people a chance to be on TV/play to represent their favorite teams.

Another idea I'd like to see happen is when a pass is thrown, shift the camera closer to the WR for the catch and defender/receiver battle. At least let us see it from closer than where the ball was thrown from.

A special teams gunner element would be really nice on kickoffs/punts.

How about integration with live games. Play predictor would all you to use the madden game to predict up coming plays while the game streams in?

I do think it's probably Natal/Sony motion controls for passing, kicking FG/Punts and blocking. I think that it's probably another sku not a radical change to the Madden that we all play. Madden NFL Trainer or such, the wii version is pointless IMO, just make some fun NFL mini-games and you'll do better IMO. NFL Trainer for the mini games, NFL Arcade for casual fun, Madden 11 for the usual crowd. Now you've got three distinct markets to cater to.
Either way, half of you will ****ing hate it, and half of you will ****ing love it. NO MATTER WHAT.
I just realized that with Rock Band making extra change for the peripherals (EA loves extra change) maybe we'll be putting those tackling dummies in front of the TV? http://www.allgames.com/main/images/stories/tackle1.jpg
