I see your point towards frank there. However, once I started to shell out $60 per game and $300-400 for the system to play it, yes I would be on the side that product has to improve with the price too. That and monopolizing of the license which breeds no financial reasons for EA to have to compete against. I cannot blame them, it was a good move from a business perspective and made them alot of money. The court of public opinion will come back in other ways I am sure. At least I hope.

Authenticity in the stats is my personal concern. Thats why I said "I see your point" when it come to graphics and framerates. Thats visual, which can be deemed subjective, which can be closed as not being able to please everyone. That is why I partially agree with you.

Im not talking about expecting to see in a video game, everything that happens on the field during a real NFL game. Im talking about issues that should have been worked out by now. Mainly OL blocking, defensive players that all of a sudden turn away from the ball carrier, and the problems that are being experienced in Franchise mode. If this were the first year or two of Franchise, I would expect some problems, but Franchise is not new. If you believe that after all these years of Madden, that the video game players should still be trying to figure out how to correct key issues with the game, months after its release, thats fine. Jesus Christ, there are members on this forum spending countless hours trying to come with sliders, adjustments and everything else, just to get this game to play somewhat like football should be played. I refuse to sugar coat EA's short comings with this game. They got what they wanted, which was exclusive NFL rights, because they knew 2K Sports was kicking their butts when it came to football. Well, its time for them to step up and do what needs to be done to make this game what it should be. Look at the strides MLB The Show has made, in less than half the time that Madden has been in existence.

I remember shelling out $50 on an inferior basketball game in the late 80's for the 1st Nintendo system. It was terrible. There was nothing I could do about it, either. No patches, no online, nothing. Back then, you took your lumps.

As far as stats go, I was a fanatic about stats up until a few years ago. I've worked 4 months on stats in the past with Madden with a group of dedicated gamers trying to get stats close to NFL avgs.

Personally, I don't have time for that anymore. It takes an hour to play the game as it is and my time has become very limited. Now, I'm lucky to get through one season and before you know it, baseball is out in early March.

This Madden might have me playing longer because of the improved game play (based on my opinion) after patch #2.

Cpfrank, as far as issues with franchise mode, I didn't expect anything of a major upgrade with franchise mode from even 09 to 10. Josh was very clear that a minor upgrade would occur during the production of 10. He told members of OS don't expect everything from HC to become integrated into Madden 10. Based on those statement, it was pretty clear to me that franchise mode was tweaked a bit for 10 with nothing receiving a major overhaul.

Hopefully, franchise mode get's some love in 11.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Patch #2 Roundtable

Not sure what the point of the "official" patch review and this "roundtable" discussion is. Not sure what's being said that hasn't already been said in the impressions thread. Only the impressions thread is more credible because it's a lot more balanced in terms of expounding on stats which is highly glossed over or outright omitted altogether in this official "review" and "roundtable" (stats were part of the patch, were they not?). Agenda perhaps?

With all due respect, sounds like a lot of self-important blathering to me. Just my opinion.

Not everyone plays the offline franchise mode, so for those people, the simmed stats issue isn't relevant. I'm guessing most of the people in this roundtable fall under that category.

In fact, I'd wager at this point, the only people who are still playing Madden seriously are those in online franchises, because that's really the only area where the fun factor manages to overcome this game's flaws IMO.

I respect your opinion, but disagree to a point. I've seen tons of posts where people were waiting to really dive into the game until stats were fixed because offline franchise is really where their interest lies. Many avoid online because of the cheese factor alone, though I assume some of that might be mitigated by being in a league of some kind where straight-up play might be encouraged.

For me personally, I've seen a few solutions proposed in the sliders section that help make the stats more tolerable, but I don't think anyone (who cared about that, anyway) imagined that additional "solutions" by the community would be needed because, after all, fixes to the stat engine were supposed to be a part of the patch. They certainly "changed" the stats, but I wouldn't say they "fixed" them, IMHO.

50 bucks at launch...if that. Anyways, I will not debate on pricing as I considered the total cost (system plus games) to be lower then compared to now..that was what I was getting at. *Unless a person was a Neo Geo fan, that price never went down.
Plus you have to consider that licensing monopolies (well close to a monopoly I guess) and web enhancement were not apart of the game back then..like you said but , as I read it, in a different context. Like it was a positive nowadays? Well, sure it is but for added content but thats merely it. I would consider web supplementation (updates and such), better platforms (PS2, Ps3, Xbox360), and newer engines to reasons for games to progress compared to regress.
Which brings me back to my first post...

To each his or her own I guess. I hear ya on baseball though, cannot wait.
