Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: 2nd Title Update Preliminary Details

I'm not taking shot at just EA here because 2K has had an exclusive agreement with baseball (on the 360), but we will not see a great football game until the exclusive license ends or isn't renewed in my opinion.

I urge people that "waste their time posting here" as someone noted (not that I necessarily agree, the squeaky wheel often gets the oil now doesn't it?) to instead send letters to the NFL to ask them to end the exclusive license. But, money talks in this life.

Same for baseball (MLB 09, by the way is a first party game made by Sony, that is why the PS3 can have 2 baseball games. MS should use their High Heat license and try to make a decent baseball game for the 360. I used to be in the video game industry and it all comes down to the talent that is hired for the games and the support they get from the "suits" at the end of the day.)
I don't think there is anything wrong with posting here about your frustrations about the patch as long as it doesn't get personal and stays mature and constructive. After all, when you really think about it, isn't that the point of forums? I'm old enough to remember when all of this (internet) didn't exist and you couldn't get much info about your games or talk to other people that enjoy the same hobby as yourself.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with your post.

I remember those times too well. The games were simpler(some of them) and we played them for fun for hours on end without the need for patches. (even if they needed patches)
Pong was a very boring game with no strategy, but it was played for hours and hours. Simple, boring by today's standards and yet entertaining.

If you mean that the rumor isn't true, then maybe try saying that instead, and maybe provide a link to some definitive source stating that franchises won't need to be restarted.

Other than that, helpful post!

In my opinion, the worst time consumers are the folks who stick around on message boards and constantly whine about a game/patch every day as though their desperate calls for improvement are being heard. Yes, the developers take into account what the public wants to see in their games but, you must agree, a lot of what is done here on OS and various boards around the internet is overkill.

I've been here before. For the Grand Theft Auto series I would be on GTAForums.com (a forum website that the Rockstar dev. team never forgets to appreciate in their game credits) day in and day out racking up post after post talking about the games, especially during the suspenful months before release. And you know what? I racked up well over 5,000 posts on that board. And one day, I decided to look back on myself and I saw someone who was definitely excited for the game but at the same time, I saw how much time I wasted discussing some ridiculous things. Eventually, when it came time to hype GTA4, I ceased to join in on the hype threads. And for that reason, I enjoyed that game a whole lot more. Patience is key to anything in life, not just video games. Some of us here are in college, and I'm sure can't wait to grab that degree and be done with the whole thing, but it's at least a 2-4 year road and patience is the greatest route to take.

All I'm saying is that many members here appear extremely impatient and childish. Many of them are warned, and ultimately banned, by the moderating staff. Why? Not because they're being censored. Not because any of us have lost the right to freedom of expression. Because sometimes it's downright annoying, and once again, childish.

Cummings released Patch 2 info on October 16th. It is now November 13th. Not even a month. About 20 of the 23 pages in this thread are a waste of time. The increasing demand will not force EA's hand (or Microsoft/Sony) to release the patch sooner. They will release it when they release it. That's the bottom line. They will follow protocol, submit the patch for approval, and we will all get the patch when it's time.

I didn't expect and I still wouldn't expect the patch 'til around Thanksgiving, when the Madden arcade game is released. These companies like to release things around the same time, right? So once December 1st hits, that's when people should START to get antsy.

Not friggin October 20th when the information was released October 16th and everyone's saying "omg where's the patch?", "I need the patch!", "C'mon EA hurry your asses up!"

Browsing OS has to be fun for guys like me too. And having to sift through this crap day in and day out isn't very fun. And the goal of the staff here is to limit people like me from having to sift through the mindless rants. And for that, I commend them. Modding a forum is easy work, I've done that in the past too, but it can become so unbelievably taxing on the mind to deal with the same stuff over and over again.

This is not my first post on the matter. I urge everyone once again to be patient. Hell, the dev. team should come on here and tell everyone to be patient. Maybe many of you would listen then, only to likely curse their arrival a day later when the patience runs up.
Good post. I am enjoying the game both online and offline. I said in other post that I am coming to accept that sport games are on a 15 month development cycle. Madden 10 was the first sport game that I purchased this year and the last. This is the first time in close to 15 years that I haven't purchased multiple sports title. Why, there are too many unfinished products that in many cases patches will not fix.

But Madden has been around for quite a while to still have gaping holes in gameplay. Simple as that, they need to get better at their jobs. The patching system wasn't designed to allow companies to release games earlier than they perhaps should, so f--- EA and 2K for turning it into that. A patch should be a rarity, not expected before a game is even released.
WRONG! EA bought the licence to the NFL because it was for sale. Get your facts straight. Had 2KSports the money to out bid EA, they would have.

Gamespot.com:

The deal, one EA admits to having lobbied for over the past few years, is an exclusive five-year licensing deal granting EA the sole rights to the NFL's teams, stadiums, and players. However, the publisher and Players Inc. denied a similar deal was in the works in May 2004, even requesting publications that ran the story run public retractions.
CNN.com:
Quote:
Take Two, naturally, spoke out against the announcement.
"We believe that the decisions of the [NFL] and Players Inc. to grant an exclusive license for videogames do a tremendous disservice to the consumers ... limiting their choices, curbing creativity and almost certainly leading to higher game prices," it said in a statement. Wedbush Morgan Securities' Pachter agreed.
"It was flat out predatory licensing. [EA is] trying to put other people out of business. No matter what, the consumer has fewer choices and no matter what, they're paying more. There is no $20 option. It goes to $50 next year and stays there. I think consumers lose."
Whose facts aren't straight?

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: 2nd Title Update Preliminary Details

How did this turn into a 2k vs EA thing?

Back on topic:
In the last 2 weeks i've purchased NBA 2k10, Modern Warfare 2, and Ghostbusters. I officially don't care if the patch ever comes out. EA bungled this bad, and I think a lot of people have moved on like I have. And the further this carries into the holiday gaming season, the more great games that will be released. Example: this Tuesday NCAA Basketball and Tony Hawk Ride come out. 2 more huge titles that will take people away from Madden.

Granted, they probably don't care. They already have my money, but it's still taking too long.
