Just got this game from best buy for free on the buy 2 get 1 free. Is this game the better game of the two nhl games. 1st nhl game this gen. I remember having so much playing the old hockey game in like 92 or somewhere around there. Does this game have Broadcast cam?

Right now the CPU shooting percentages are ridiculously high because they score a lot while shooting a little. What I have noticed while watching games in NHL10 and on TV is that the CPU does not take a bad shot. They don't just skate over the blueline and let a slapshot go. They will either try to pass it for a better shot or cycle it until something opens up. They don't shot the puck an net like in real life where almost any shot is a good shot. Honestly next time you play count how many shots you take where there is no screen, or you are wide open, but outside the hash marks. These are shots a goalie will most likely save. The CPU doesn't take those shots, unless they are down on the scroeboard.
If EA was able to allow the CPU to take these shots if there was nothing else going, then the shot totals would be higher.
An example at regular strength, the dman gets the puck at the point with no one between him and the goalie, in NHL 10 the dman will always pass that to someone closer to the goal, but in real hockey the dman will try to put the puck at the goalies pads and hope for a rebound or that one of his teammates will get to the puck and get a stick on it. I feel the CPU only shoots when it has a good percentage shot and that is why the shot totals are low, but the shooting percentage is high.

What got me thinking about looking at this is the whole neutral zone fiasco we have, where the CPU will pass and skate the puck from one side to the other, because I have 5 players all lined up at the blueline. In real hockey, that never happens, they would just dump it in and go get it, but EA has "trained" the CPU to not change strategies quickly. Thus forcing the CPU to think only "carry the puck in" and not realize they could dump the puck in and chase it down. I noticed this last night when I was playing Washington and there was one time when they passed and skated for 2 minutes in the neutral zone before they finally dumped the puck in. I don't chase the players in the neutral zone, I forced teams to dump and chase.

I think that if EA could somehow let the CPU recognize things faster that the game would be better.
I couldn't have said it better myself...although i tried in my previous post.

Does anyone have a fix for helping the CPU get realistic shots on goal stats using "pro" difficulty?

Last year's game was great, looking back at my regular season stats from NHL 09, and realizing how spot on they were. All my goalies had realistic Save% and GAA. Now save% stats in this game are in the low 80's, which is ridiculous...I didn't even touch the sliders last year (which was nice, shouldn't have to tweak a game you pay $60 dollars for in order to get a realistic hockey game, isn't that what we pay for?) thinking about waiting to start my season until the next patch comes out, does anybody know if there will be one?

Actually the casual gamer usually doesnt care or want to play realistic hockey so the game companies will release the games fit for arcade style because us as sim gamers are in the minority and the companies know we will adjust the sliders to get a realstic sim.

thats my take anyway

Yeah i totally agree w/ what you are saying. But to me it would make sense to have "rookie" difficulty be the arcade game. But why such a big jump in the arcade style play on pro difficulty this year? I mean i'm not an expert gamer by any stretch (which is why i play on pro diff.) But last year the game was at least a challenge on pro. I play w/ the thrashers and i think my record was 35-36-11 last year in my season. And this year i'm 9-1 w/ the thrashers and i'm scoring 7-8 goals regularly and the shots on goal for the CPU is always low...that's a pretty big jump. I mean i just don't understand how they made the CPU AI so incredibly dumb this year. I've tried all-star on default sliders and it's ridiculous how hard it is to score. Sure i could mess w/ sliders, but once that starts, i start tweaking the game more than I'm actually playing it. I mean look, i'm not saying i should never have to touch the sliders. I have made a few necessary slider adjustments even on pro diff. both this year and last year.

Thoughts on NHL 10?

Just got this game over the weekend. What does everyone think? It's pretty sweet. I started the 'Be a GM' mode. Looks like it's real in depth. Right now I've been just doing basic tasks to get GM points and playing games. Haven't looked a ton into the scouting and stuff but it looks to have some pretty cool aspects and they don't ignore that you have to build a complete team grading your roster makeup in four areas.

I just wanted to talk to some people about the gameplay and the GM Mode and get their thoughts or anything cool you might have seen or tips in building a good franchise in GM mode. Really looks to be a sweet game for dynasty type players. I hope it holds true as I play more.

Gameplay on "All-Star" is pretty good. Very accurate. Very competitive.

BTW I started my franchise with the Blackhawks. Kane seems to be more of a force then Toews, he is faster and Toews gets trucked a lot. Odd I thought.

Re: Thoughts on NHL 10?

If not for some of the issues in Be A GM, I would agree. Things like silly Cpu trades(though I haven't seen how this is post patch) and star players being left in Free Agency. That and the Cpu sim engine is quite unrealistic, having teams like Islanders or Thrashers finish atop the NHL. Other than that and some issues regarding the Cpu Offensive AI, the game is the best hockey game EA has released. I just hope they can patch the issues that remain in Be A GM, so it's more realistic.

I like it almost as much as I like spinach and broccoli. Even more.

I love spinach and broccoli, by the way.
