this is not a new issue, it has been a part of madden since 04(at the least). i made mention of it to ian via PM last year.

this is not a new issue, it has been a part of madden since 04(at the least). it really bugs me when the ball carrier runs in place to allow the defender to catch him. i made mention of it to ian via PM last year.

here it is from may 08:

i absolutely appreciate what you guys have done/are doing with madden this year especially the honesty......with that there is still one small problem with your annimations and tackling system that hasn't been addressed and it's a problem that has been around for years....

the ball carrier has the tendacy to slow down as the defender makes his approach(usually within 1-2 feet of the ball carrier) and you can see this in the begining of the video. observe the ball carrier stutter step as if to allow the defender to catch him. now you might think it's due to previous contact, but it is not. i have seen this time and time again in the open field. it really prevents that breakaway feeling seeing yourself forced into a animation.

i'm not being unappreciative ,i'm just trying to help, because as much as anyone i'd love to see madden return to form.

thanks

Dave M.

Very valid feedback and great eye for catching something like that. The thing is, there really is no way to actually eliminate that kind of thing because 2 football players that are out in their own little worlds running have to get into perfect alignment of a captured interaction.

The thing that we've done this year that no other game has done before (with our new tackling system) is actually leave you in control during that time as we are aligning the two characters to a point out in space with respect to both of their current velocities. I know it's a bit tech-sounding but this basically means that the tackle doesn't have to be fully "aligned" until the very last second (that we tag specifically per animation), whereas most games align you right at the start of the interaction which makes it feel like you were "sucked" into an interaction. You actually retain some amount of control until the final alignment point.
You'll see some really cool shoe-string tackles in 09 because of this tech, because the defender's projected point in space is way behind the ballcarriers based on their velocity, so when he realizes this his only option is just reach out and swipe his feet.

there was a video showing the hesitation/suction similar to what you are talking about, and the pull distance was more like 2 to 3 feet.

Thanks!
Really, so when you blitz, the guy in the running back in the flats is open. Well, that's how it works. There is an equal number of guys on offense and defense, so if you send more that a normal pass rush, you will have guys open on offense. That's the risk you take when you blitz. Try doing a zone blitz with your cornerbacks covering the flats. That should stop it.

The 2 main problems with this game still aren't fixed.

1. The offensive line is still mentally challenged. Actually it includes the WR. Basically any player trying to block.

2. CPU controlled pass defense. Linebackers still go from standing square to the QB, to gliding 4 yards horizontally to pick off a pass. And even when the WR gets a step or 2 on the DB they can still make a play on the ball. Because the pass defense animation that is triggered, gives the DB a speed burst and even after the were beat by 2 steps the whole route, they catch up at the end and make the play. Also, it would be nice to see realistic wideout coverage. So many times i see the DB running the WR's route, about 2 steps AHEAD of the wideout. Like the DB was in the huddle and he is the one going out for the pass.

Madden what really needs to happen. EVERYONE on the team sit down and watch game film on every position, and see how real players play different situations. Don't take the easy way out. Produce a quality product.

This year is a step forward. But it is time to change it up. COMPLETE OVERHAUL of the system. Madden hasn't changed in 10 years. Its still the same game, with updated graphics and animations. We have the technology now to start doing games with physics. NOT ANIMATIONS. Don't the developers on the team take pride in their work. I want a madden team the wants to be innovative and break the mold. It's a shame that the best video game franchise is also the franchise that changes the least from edition to edition.

It's the same with operating systems. You start with a base platform OS. and they slowly release updates to the OS to make it better. But eventually the time comes, when you need a completely new OS.

WOW, just WOW, this game is great. I don't know what they did with this patch, but whatever they did Wow. EA, and Tiburon I didn't think you could improve on perfection but you guys did it. Looks like I'm going to use some sick days just to get the lust of playing out of my system great Job Ian.

My BIGGEST gripe right now is that after watching football through the post and into now the reg. season is that the grass looks NOTHING like that of in madden. madden's grass textures are all over the place. Lions stadium, patriots stadium are about the only ones i can stand minus maybe st louis. for some reason the grass has to be more od a one solid color of green not patchy or detailed... Overcast games make the grass in madden look better though but at other times forget it.

THATs what i wish a patch could fix...GAME ART

Are you connected to the internet? If so, just put the game in. It should prompt you to download update 1.01.(PS3)
