Re: Madden NFL 10 Patch #1 Available, Post Impressions Here

After having more time with the patch:

THE GOOD

The game now feels more physical.

The blockers hold their blocks better, but not unrealistically (accurate to ratings).

Coverage overall is better.

I was a bit off base about the Broadcast Cam. I spectated my first game, and it didn't look distorted or weird like I intially thought, just too far away. I turned the commentary up, and it was an okay experience. I like how even with replays off, they show automatically during specator mode. And, even though the CPU teams play the game fast, they still show a few cutscenes here and there.

THE BAD (REALLY BAD)

RB slant routes! The RB walking out of the backfield!!! What?!! On one play, I even saw John Henderson (DT) walk after the ball was snapped!! These are not good ways to remedy gameplay problems!!! It seems that all devs can think of nowadays is slowing the game down, or making characters dumb, instead of working on better A.I.

Although the blockers block better, the way it's achieved sometimes is totally in line with the already major problems with this engine!!! Sometimes, DE's will attempt to tackle the ballcarrier out of the backfield, and backpeddle BACK to the LOS to be blocked!!! C'mon EA!!! Noone asked for that!!!

The Broadcast Cam is okay, but, it pauses when there's a INT! That's cheeeeeesy!!!!! We don't want gimmicks!!! We just want what we see on T.V.!!! The screen doesn't freeze when there's an INT, on Sunday!!

And instead of toning down breaking tackles, you made it worse!!!!!

THE WHATEVER

Very Fast speed definitely seems a bit slower. But, it feels even more accurate to real NFL speed, especially the throwing.

I think they increased the fatigue effect a lil too much. At 50, it's hard to tell who has fatigue ratings in the 90's.

KO returns almost seem easier.

What's up with blocks on the back of the helmets????

Slider changes have been made on my set, located in the Slider forum!

The replays still get cut off.

Quite the impressive screw up.
Offensive players playing defense was already happening before the patch, and the replay issue was not supposed to be fixed with this patch.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Patch #1 Available, Post Impressions Here

-Run Blocking is more effective, which makes running too easy, which forces you to lower RUN BLK sliders. Little net gain on that improvement.

-Run blocking improvement makes outside runs that were too difficult now too easy. No net improvement there either.

-Would have been nice if they thoroughly explained what "tuned slider effectiveness" means. Is every slider more sensitive?

-Still having trouble seeing any improvement to man coverage. And even if there is some improvement, what good is it when everything about how DBs work in the game is wrong? I'm sick of seeing DBs both deflect a pass and then jump onto the shoulders of the WR in the same second. Has anyone seen this happen in the NFL? How often do you see receivers catch a pass, get hit, and spin around in the air? It's still far too aggressive to be realistic.

To borrow from The Simpsons, why make 32 flavors when you can't get vanilla right?

Pursuit angles on defense is still absolutely atrocious.

Toe drag catch logic is not as good as I thought.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Patch #1 Available, Post Impressions Here

I just downloaded the 'patch' last night and I can say I was kinda happy with some of the changes, but my god...I played the Rams with the vikings and Marc Bulger tore me up for 380 some yards, 240+ of that going to Donnie Avery...on 7 catches. I know Cedric Griffin is not exactly a speedster and is known to get beat, but WOW. At least 4 of his catches were for over 50 yards. I run alot of zone D, and it was like my guys didn't have a clue...at least 2 of his 80+ bombs were ones where he was COMPLETELY uncovered. Weak. His 25 yarder was due to me running an all out blitz, so that was cool, but c'mon! Granted it was just one game, but the Rams never seemed to even attempt to run the ball. I ended up losing an OT game on a fumble by Chester Taylor and the ensuing field goal(which made the game fun anyways) but I will grow weary of this crap if it happens with any regularity. Anyone else see anything like this?

LBZ do you still have any contact with Ian and crew? There are 3 main things I think have to be adressed next patch.

1. Pursuit angles
2. Covering the flats (Also, man-align is completely broken which is a contributing factor to this)
3. D-backs back pedaling 30 yards and staying right with the WR. (Along with this I think safeties react way to quickly. If you throw a deep pass they can literally get all the way across the field while the ball is in the air to make a play on the ball)

Man I just give up and will just play it with whatever they do with it.

There is just too much that needs to be addressed. Might as well just accept this as it is and whatever the next patch addresses might as well just accept the game for the rest of the year as whatever it is at that point.
