Re: NCAA Football 10 Review

only gripe I have with the game is the camera angles, but I think I can get used to it. The gameplay is great, the graphics are great.
I would say that most of the people saying they will pass on the game will change their minds. This game is to damn good to pass up.
I am freaking lovin it, have played non stop since I got it. Game is so much more detailed, and if you like strategy, the play setup and the decisions you have to make as far as injuries are concerned are vital.
This game is not for the young kids who just want to scramble all over the place and cheese. NCAA 10 IS FOR THE HARDCORE GAMERS
WHO LOVE STRATEGY! May be why so many people who posted negative remarks about it. This game takes some football knowledge and skill. Damn it! RB got injured and I elected to keep him in the game, just fumbled! bout ready to lose another! lol!

LOVE THIS GAME

I think the review was written well, it was just undone by the final score. It comes across like a compromise--we're telling it like it is, but we're not gonna hammer it on the score that will show up on Metacritic or whatever because OS does kinda have a good relationship with EA types.

I'm not saying that's what happened--not really a conspiracy theorist--but it just is how it appears. Either the score is wrong or the review is--they don't jive.

I haven't played it and don't plan on buying it, but I will say this:

1. If it is the best gameplay on next gen, well, that ain't saying much.
2. To justify an 8 with all the other problems, it better have the best gameplay of all time, not just on this generation.
3. It isn't right just to compare this game to other NCAA games. If they've all been weak and this one is somewhat better, that doesn't mean it has a 9.5 gameplay or whatever. It should also be compared to the Madden series and APF/2K5.

Anyway, like I said, I did enjoy the review very much. Heck, after reading it I feel entitled to comment about it and a game I've never played. But if it is accurate, that 8 just looks fishy. After boning the sliders last year and a whole year later they still don't work? Heck, on a serious sim site like OS, that should have been worth the 2 points right there.

I picked up the PS3 version and I agree that the gameplay is pretty good. It's just a fun game and, again, this comes from a person who thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay of Madden 09 even with all the glitches. I looked at it more as a step in the right direction as EA got used to current gen consoles. NCAA 10 plays like a Madden 09.5 and I do understand that most things in the same year's Madden don't make it to NCAA til the following year. I didn't buy NCAA 09, just played the demo several times over.
As for NCAA 10, I LOVE the tipped passes. The drama it creates is amazing for such a seemingly minute thing. Putting pressure on QBs that contribute to ducks being throw - WONDERFUL! The increased animations for manually breaking tackles, defensive tackles (shoestring tackles are HOT). over the shoulder animations (completing an over the shoulder catch going out of bounds during a two minute offense or in the corner of the endzone for a TD - PRICELESS!!), yada, etc, yada.

I could go on and on. I love this game, already, and I am not even a big college football head. This will push me to follow the collegiate football season even more, now. I look forward to the HUGE improvement to the presentation and such because now that Madden 10 puts it to use, it WILL be utilized for NCAA 11, mark these words.

Exactly.

I don't have a problem with what Chris wrote, but it simply doesn't sound like an 8/10 review.

It sounds like a 6 or 6.5/10 review that was concluded with an 8/10 because Chris and OS didn't want to tick off EA.

I'm sure that isn't the real reason - it just comes across that way.

Nothing about Chris' review screams out 8 ... no matter what he says about improved gameplay.

But here's the funny part - after my first game, I might have looked at the game the same way. I think it's very underwhelming in many, many respects ... but in the end, I had a hell of a fun game. When that game was done, I would give NCAA 10 an 8 or 8.5/10 ... despite its obviously flaws.

Re: NCAA Football 10 Review

On the Field: This is the best playing NCAA on the current crop of consoles. The balance offered in the game makes this an improvement over last year's title in the gameplay department.
The game still doesn't play as good as last gen and doesn't even play as well as Madden 09 for next gen. How has this become the norm and considered an improvement?

Graphics: A mixed bag. Too much clipping, poor models around the stadium, and several uniform erros are tough to forgive. Animations and stadiums look good. Player models are merely ok, as muscle tones are a bit much still.
This is the only thing this game comes close to doing right.

Sound: It’s either completely stale in regards to the commentary or it is simply atrocious if you want to talk about crowd chants. Where are the marching bands and their regular music in-game?!
This game has the worst presentation of any sports title on next gen.

Entertainment Value: The game is fun to play when you are playing pigskin, if you can stomach the fact the game doesn't capture college football all that well. Dynasty mode could feel old and tired for many, and this will probably go on the shelf for many once Madden drops.
The only thing that is fun about this game is that's it's a game about football. It's like a porno with a good looking chick except she's a tranny and an amputee. But hey, it's still porno.

Learning Curve: The game simply will take a long time to figure out for football newcomers. You will have to learn about football to succeed on the upper difficulty levels. Veterans of the series, however, may find the game rather easy.
5 minutes, 3 or 4 plays on each side of the ball will be more than enough to beat Heisman difficulty.

Online: My experience was little if any lag. Online dynasty will keep you playing for quite awhile if you have a good group and season showdown gives your random exhibition games purpose.
Ranked games are a joke once again because of gameplay design that make it impossible for real football knowledge to pay off.

Helpful Hint: Download more accurate rosters off of EA's locker account (
PS3 - eascncaa10, Xbox 360 - EASCncaa10).The rosters which shipped with the game are pretty inaccurate due to a developmental error.
Don't bother, the game is so bad it's not even worth the time.

Score: 8.0 (Good)
6.0 for real fans of football who know the game.(Terrible, this game has reached NBA Live status and should not even be considered.)

Honestly, this rating and review is based on what EA sports has given us as football ever since the license agreements. I dare anyone to pop in APF or even 2K5 and call this game an 8. I don't even see the light at the end of the tunnel for this game. There is nothing in this game to even build upon besides graphics.

I think too many people are putting too much into the extras so you are not comprehending the review bottomline score. The gameplay is pretty darn good and that's the building block for next year's NCAA. Presentation gets repetitive and tired after a while and to be honest, is that what people are buying the game for? I would hope not. The gameplay is the essential part of the game and that's what makes this game so good NOT presentation.See how boring the presentation will get in Madden 10, over time and after a while, u really won't even pay attention to it. I honestly thought this was the reason why EA minimized the presentation to the fullest because it takes up programming and space and at the end of the day, gameplay is the most important aspect of the game, just like any video game.
I say an 8.0 is good but I would even go higher because as much as I like good presentation ala 2K5, that doesn't make or break a football game for me. I would give it an 8.7 because the gameplay is actually a 9.3ish to me, alone but it definitely could use better presentation and audio, at times, which sets the score back. And honestly, since I don't really care about the presentation in a college football game, I'd give it that 9.3, at the end of the day. The game play is great fun and well done.
