I always felt that the new gen editions would hit a home run if the above was addressed along with signature QB throwing motions. The gameplay will be there overall, with some possible glitches, but with quality realistic animations with new gen graphics, oh boy. The lack of has probably been MY biggest disappointment with the new gen editions. Funny how I went back to the PS2 version last year because it looked better and in turn, played better.
I totally agree.. And thats the main point I was trying to get across.. Your not the only one who has gone back to the previous versions of madden, hell I still play 2k5 & 2k8 for those reasons alone.. Realism is key..

Yes it's the tackling, but it's deeper than that - it's the way the players interact, not just how many people can join into a tackle for the end result. While the CB/DB interaction has been improved, DBs seem to exhibit pretty bad form, being able to backpedal nearly fully upright while keeping up with receivers that are supposedly running full speed forward. And it's difficult to see if they actually interact on the fly. The line play has been improved, but it remains to be seen how much the lack of on the fly multiple player interaction/double team blocking will hurt (if it hurts at all). Players in general seem to lack the need to plant appropriately for directional changes. QB form on passes; QB movement in the pocket. We've seen the discussions about the lack of true analog movement.

Most if not all of the things above are animation/lack of momentum issues. They're attempting to address some of the problems but it remains to be seen if it's anywhere close to the level it needs to be. I would think someone would be able to look past the gorgeous graphics and say "that doesn't really look right". That hype vid they just released has a lot more wrong with it than ball carrier animations.

This is exactly my point, except I think you said it better Spank.. The key is "animations in general". Madden lacks it and has for to long now. This should have been the #1 Prioirity this offseason.

This quote says it all, "While the CB/DB interaction has been improved, DBs seem to exhibit pretty bad form, being able to backpedal nearly fully upright while keeping up with receivers that are supposedly running full speed forward. The fact that the animation system is still poor, is whats hurting madden. period..

Keep it comin Spank...

Re: Madden NFL 10: Updated Running Animation

Apexbronx's presentation is well done; however, he should have stopped at the runningback's cut. At the end of the play with a db and lb making the tackle, both their momentum and the RB's momentum was going toward the sideline, but the RB ended up flying back toward the left into the momentum, which didn't look right...but I got the jist of his message. This game example moved correctly and looked good, so you barely notice the end, which exemplifies all of our points.

Upon seeing the first few seconds of the video, for a split second I thought this was another Madden video and didn't realize that Madden looked and moved that good...then realized this was a 5 year old game video being shown.
