Re: Madden NFL 10 Online Franchise Confirmed

One question and I'm not sure if it's been answered, but are you going to have to be connected to a wifi to use the iPhone app? Also, do you have to have 3g phone?

Re: Finally...The Truth About Online Franchise

I think one of the main arguements is not being able to have a set schedule to go online to play- sometimes I go 2 weeks without finding time to play. I can't be held to even 100% playing on a particular day, let alone find an exact time to play against someone.

Maybe if it was you and one of your buddies who lives far away that would be alright, but thats like playing 2 on your own offline franchise, just not in the same room.

Sometimes the arguement is just "I'm not interested in online"- I just don't want to play it. You probably can't pursuade someone to take your side by saying "Well, its fun, you'll like it... If you play it like this, it will work".

I'm sure there are plenty of things you don't like/aren't interested in with Madden, and most likely someone else won't be able to change your mind either.

So True.

What I keep reading is that people are complaing about OF but they're the same people that have never played NCAA's OD. Online Dynasty was/is AWESOME! All the things these people are worried about have already been experienced in Online Dynasties. I never ever play random people online. But I loved playing Online Dynasty with people that I either already knew or a group of guys that I was invited to that I got to know. There is no cheesing in online dynasty or franchise because the members police themselves and have the commish to be the heavy hand. If the commissioner is a stand up dude then this system works great.

I love the idea of 32 human controlled teams, but it will be very rare that those leagues get completed. I would think 6, 8, 10 or 12 would probably be the ideal number of teams. I haven't bought Madden for a couple years, but I'm pretty sure this feature alone will compel me to fork over the $60.

Re: Finally...The Truth About Online Franchise

OK, break it down for me because I clearly don't understand.

You say don't have 32 people, just find five or six guys and play a franchise--but how would that work? Would you have a finite amount of time to finish your weekly games? Meaning, it's week one in our franchise mode, and I have till Friday to complete my game. Then it's Wednesday and Jim and John finish their week one games. Then it's Thursday and the last few guys fit in their week one games.

And then what happens? We simulate the computer's game and it goes to week two?

If so, wouldn't it take about 3 months to finish a season--and that's if people stick with it or don't run into issues in their personal life.

How would free agency work? How does the draft work? You just gotta hope all six guys are free for a two or three hour block of time, like a fantasy football draft?

And what happens if someone is doing poorly? Will your friend want to stick it out and play an hour long game every week when he's heading down a path to a 4-12 season? Lord knows, as huge of a football fan as I am, even I tend to wane in my interest in fantasy football when my team begins to flounder.

In a perfect world, online franchise sounds like it could be tons of fun. But I'm still not clear on how it realistically can come to fruition.

They said an iTouch app. in some of their PR statements. That means Wifi.

But they also talked about setting your depth charts while waiting in line at the grocery store so that would imply a phone with Internet access where Wifi isn't available.

Question is whether EA will charge for this app. or let people download it for free, since the only way you can use it is to buy Madden at $60.

They charge $10 for the iPhone version of Tiger Woods but $5 for games like Monopoly or Scrabble.

So there's no way they can charge a lot of money for this.

In our group as with any successful group, you have to have good communication. If everyone is done and just 1 player is left to complete their week you have option. Either sim it or everyone can agree to just give the player more time. We didn't set a certain time but expected it to be completed withing a week or so. We went well over a week at times also because everyone realized life takes over sometimes.

And then what happens? We simulate the computer's game and it goes to week two? Yep.

Again this is dependant on the players you have. Basically get a good group of players and talk it out beforehand. No matter what happens the league can always move on with the simming or drop player option

Well if he doesn't he should be playing anyways. Isn't winning/losing and re-building for the future what dynasty is all about? If I always won that would get boring to me.

I can honestly say that playing people you know play realistically and not just talk a good game of realistic play will beat the offline vs CPU only experience, hands down.

Clearly 6 weeks wasn't enough.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Online Franchise Confirmed

If one owner isn't available for a game deadline but the other one is, can you instead of simming the game have the one owner play the CPU and use those results?

That would be a good punishment for someone not being available.

If you sim the whole game, he might get a win for not even showing up.
