Re: MLB 09 The Show Patch Announcement From the MLB Development Team

You know I was just thinking to myself that it is sad that this stat glitch, and lineup issue has detracted so much from what I consider otherwise to be the greatest baseball game ever made, and I have played practically every baseball video game ever made, and even worked on a few. They have all had their glitches and problems.
Even with these problems, it is hands down still the best video baseball game to me. (I don't play RTTS, so I can't comment on whatever is wrong with that. I agree with Rudy about the fielding errors (lack of them and not counting some correctly), but personally I can live with that.)

Wait a minute.....There was a roster released on 4/20 by Sony that is Historical Stat glitch free? Can someone confirm this? If thats the case.....Franchise here I come.

I think I'm using the 4/13 roster set and its glitchy as all get out.

Yes, definitely somewhere around that date give or take a day. That's why Ridin's rosters have the stat glitch now if you get them from the vault because they were released before this latest SCEA roster update.

I have started several franchises and saved them just in case, and they are all stat glitch free. I went in and looked at everyone, A-rod, Pujols, Smoltz, Zambrano, Holliday, Giambi, Billy Wagner, you name them and compared their historical stats to the yahoo website that has historical stats. They were all correct.

Why do I not want to use it? Because I would have to put in a ton of work myself to put in on the players I want in there, and I don't have enough time.

Fistofrage, also bear in mind that once they release their next roster update, this one may turn into a pumpkin if you connect to sports connect (my SCEA 4/14 ones have the glitch this week and didn't last week after I connected to SC). Make sure you save a few franchises you may want to use with different teams.
Also, you may have to connect to sports connect so the newest database information gets applied before loading your 4/20 rosters if you power down your machine (the work around). Just check to make sure they are correct before starting a franchise if you turned off your machine and then want to reload those 4/20 rosters. Know what I mean?

Oh by the way, I am just saying that the career stats are fine at the start of your franchise. I don't know if they will stay that way.

I say this because I used the 4/13 SCEA rosters and they were fine in the beginning when I checked out most of the major players, but then after a few games, it said C. Villanueva broke the all time saves record or something like that, so I don't know what happened. When I reloaded the first franchise file, he was back to his real numbers, so go figure.
This could happen to the newest one too, I haven't played enough with it yet to know for sure.
When you say glitchy as all get out, do you mean it was wrong from the start for you, or that it "went bad" on you like it did to me?

Re: MLB 09 The Show Patch Announcement From the MLB Development Team

I think some people are more frustrated than others with the time it's taking to patch the game since the time you spend with the game depends on your gaming library. For football fans, the Show will often get shelved for awhile once July and August come around. The longer you wait for the patch, the less time you actually get with the Show. For guys that do nothing but play baseball all year, it's not nearly as big a deal.

It must of been from the beginning because 2 games in Carlos Guillen hit his 500th HR 2nd game of the franchise.

I think I'll download the new rosters tonight and not access the internet with my PS3 after that. That is crazy it does this. I won't need any roster updates after this latest one.

Get 4 or 5 guys(especially pitchers of the starting type)...and you or the CPU are in a bit of trouble.

You should be able to sign someone of the FA list....and then make a choice on who to drop when the guy is ready to come off.

I offered a suggestion to SCEA that would simply take the idea of the 15 player inactive list you have during SEASON play(the games season play) and simply adding that to your franchise. So you would have your MLB-AAA-AA levels...and another 15 slots(that don't play games, but the game could generate some fake minor league stats for them) that you(and each team) could have some extra players to fill in ...just for such occasions.
This would also allow the CPU to better handle 2 for 1 and 3 for 1 trades...as they just don't happen now because the CPU(and you) are bound to keep roster integrity(25 guys at each level)....in this way...the 15 man inactive list could serve as a place holder for players until you decide on what to do with them. This would also work for waivers(and allow the 3 day process..) where you would put the player in the 15 player slot...other teams get to "look" at him for the 3 days(you have already made the MLB move) and then he is either gone or you get to place him in AAA or AA.

Just some thoughts...

Knight, I think your idea of the 15 man inactive list is the best suggestion for this game that has ever been made. Rather than SCEA add anything else to next year’s game, I would rather see them fix all existing problems and deal with roster related issues. They did a great job of adding all the different transactions to this years game.

To expand on your idea, I would like to be able to use those inactive spots for each team to be able to import players to a roster set or FRANCHISE already in progress. It’s great that they update rosters as often as they do, but what good is an update if you’re already playing a franchise. The ability to import whatever players are added for the week and place them on a specific team’s inactive list would be the greatest accomplishment for this game. Let’s face it, updated rosters only benefit online play or exhibition. For those of us that play season or franchise mode, it doesn’t really help that updates continue after we start our season. If we could download the update, select the players that have been added for the week from that roster and import them onto an existing roster file or existing franchise roster, I’d pay double for this game.

I’m no developer and I don’t know what is or isn’t possible but this would make this game so much better. Your life making your rosters would be so much easier with a feature like this. Lets say a guy announces his retirement (like Clemens) and decides to play half way through the season and signs with a team – from that roster update you could just import that player onto a roster file, select the team to place him on and place him on the inactive list. If it’s an existing franchise, the next time the cpu has an injury or something else to cause the roster to be juggled, it would place him where it thought he should go. As it is now, you would have to create him as a rookie. Even the ability to create a veteran player would be an improvement. Have the ability to select years of service and enter career stats when editing to create a guy in that situation.

Thanks again for all your hard work and all those that helped and SCEA should definitely listen to your suggestion – YOU ARE THE MAN!
