There's nothing wrong with a default drop, but it shouldn't be mandatory. I should be able to break out of it any time I desire. Right now, it sounds like this mandatory fix is a band aid for other issues in the game that allow the run and chuck to succeed.

If I read a blitz and hot route a receiver to the spot, and need to take a one step drop to hit them, but the play calls for a 5 step drop. Ian said that you can break in order to throw, but it won't be clean. Why should I be penalized when I read the blitz, made the hot route, and now just can't stop to throw properly because the game mechanics prohibit it?

What seems really confusing to me is that some times you can break out of it. Sometimes? In APF2K8 I always control my QB. Sometimes I pull back a little to the right, and sometimes to the left, depending on where the pressure is coming from on the line and where my HB / FB / TE are when they are blocking in the backfield. With an automatic drop back control, this will be confusing to me if sometimes I am controlling, and other times I am not. Just thinking about how that would work seems to be unnatural.
Agree.. One of the main things that drove me crazy about Madden was the lack of control of the players! Especailly the Dline. You just don't really feel like you have total control of the players in Madden.. It nothing like 2k5/8. 2k football made you feel like you had full control, thats what made it feel real.. Hopefully Ian and co can change that going forward from this past community day for Madden 10. hopefully...

In this Packers play, (actualy it's something Favre started to do, and now Rodgers also does it) It's a called run play in the huddle, and with some form of communication between Rodgers and Jennings once they are lined up, the two of them have a private audible between just the two of them. All the other players on the offense still think it's a run play.

Rodgers takes one step back and throws to Jennings on this Quick slant. He actually has to throw almost as soon as possibe to avoid an illegal lineman downfield penalty since they are still run blocking.

If I see a defense playing one on one with Jennings, with a cushion like that, down by the goal line...... I hope I can make the same kind of quick throw like in the video. If there's an accuracy penalty for throwing earlier than on a 3 step drop, then I hope it's not too severe for real short throws like that.

Anything that Ian and co. do to tone down the cheese play is great news. I hope we don't have to sacrifice some levels of realism (like this quick pass) just to ensure that the cheesers can't abuse some elements of the passing game anymore.
I was going to mention this. Run/pass option is the one spot where this can be an issue. If you see the DB giving jennings space and want to get a quick slant in you should be able to bullet that in quickly. Although the thing is there's really no way to do a true run/pass option in Madden anyway because even when you do the quick audible (flick the right stick up for a short pass) everyone is aware of the change. So that shouldn't be an issue. I just hope you can get slants off quickly because there are a few plays that do use it.

Edit: When you look at the video he still does have to take a few shortened steps back though. I think they'll be able to get something like that in.

Fran Tarkenton should have learned how to play sim ball. That cheese just won't fly in the NFL. No wonder he lost 2 Superbowls.

I have never had a problem with a QB scrambling with the ball because its in the game. What isn't in the game is throwing 70+ yards especially after your stamina would go down because your running every where. Very few players in the NFL can throw 60 yards and NONE can throw 70+ yards.

Watch the NFL Pro Bowl and you will see the strongest armed QB's in the game go for the longest pass. The longest pass I ever seen in that Pro Bowl game was 65 yards. I am not talking about the game itself I am talking about the mini games before the game. You know like the most accurate, longest pass and more.

I think it was three PG.

And Joe Kapp was the losing QB of the first. [SB IV]

You ignored my video didnt you. You CANNOT do that in Madden despite what you think. You 2k fans can say it till you're blue in the face but Madden isn't as arcadey as you would like to make it seem. Sure 2k is better but all is not lost for Madden.

im going to sound like a broken record, but jamarcus russell can definitely throw 70+ plus yards. once again maybe in madden 08 you could throw the ball off your back foot pretty far but no way in hell can you do it in 09. at most maybe 30 yards, but not as much as you are claiming. btw the video of jamrock slinging the rock.

No I saw your video and that is the first time I have seen that. Does it even look right about how fast Rodgers turns to throw also? Are you telling me this doesn't happen because I can go to EA Sports world and post videos of this happening. I saw this in a Top 10 plays on EAsportsworld. Just like I saw Eli Manning run 70 yards and throw like 8 defenders off him to get in to the end zone LOL.
