Abraham didn't have an exclusive deal with 2K, I dunno about the other two.

Maybe, but they rarely deal directly with the fighters. Brizzo even said that some fighters expressed interest in being in the game for free after the game released, but, he said it's incredibly tough to talk directly to a fighter about business matters.

That's because the big names will ALWAYS be relevant to boxing. There's no guarantee that Haye, Arreola will even be relevant next year. Spending money on a fighter no one will care about next year over a legend/superstar is a waste.

Good to know about Abraham.

I dont know if I believe that. I believe you but not Brizzo. There are 5 or 6 major boxing promoters (Goosen, Golden Boy, Main Events, King, Shaw and Arum). You are telling me someone from EA couldnt call a promoter or their manager and say we are interested in paying a fighter money to appear in the game. Especially when the manager/promoter is getting a cut?

I have a problem with that. If this was strictly a legends game I could understand that approach but its not. I know that Legends have their appeal but there are plenty of people who want current fighters too. ****, I'm just asking for 50%. Keep Ali and Tyson. Keep Lennox. But give us some fighters who matter today. EA is trying to tell us that they could only get permission from 2 current heavyweights?

Why can't EA just strike up a deal with promotion companies like 2k did with Don King? Thats how 2k got a good mix of current champions, contenders and prospects. Just about every boxer in King's stable was in the game.

All EA would need to do is make a deal with Golden Boy Promotions and Top rank and you get about 75%+ of the current fighters people care about.

Eddie Chambers as the only current Heavyweight is a joke.

That's exactly what they did, and that's what the issue is. Dealing with promoter and managers is a headache. That rumor Shakyr mentioned about Hasim Rahman? Brizzo told me that it was his management team that wanted Rahman to be on the cover. I'd bet Rahman never even knew EA wanted him in the game.

Thats because it sounds like their trying to sign boxers individually. It doesn't work, we end up with the same legends in the game we had in knockout kings 2004. I know i'm not the only boxing fan that wants a current sim of the sport.

The first thing they need to do is sit down with GBP/Top rank and sign a license deal. I know boxing promoters seem ******** sometimes, but they should have every incentive to get this deal done. Free advertising for them and name recognition and expanded fan base for the fighters. EA could even call the game Golden Boy/Top rank presents Fight Night Round 4 if thats what it takes.

This is the same thing every other sport franchise does, that is why rosters are never an issue for UFC, NFL, MLB games

You really don't want to here nothing anybody has to say...huh? It's easier for EA to sign some fighters talking to them individually, but when they promoters and managers get involved it's hard to negotiated a reasonable amount. If EA was able to sign a deal with Top Rank or a promotional company we will be right back here arguing about why they only got Top Ranked boxers in the game.
Many of these boxers are self managed too. Many people are talking with feeling and not there heads. EA is trying to make a profit. The production of this game cost money.

Thats exactly it. 2K paid Don King $1M to be in the game and bring his boxers with him. I'd rather have them spend the money on testers and programmers to make this the best boxing it can be.

Hopefully they have a robust create a boxer and you can put created boxers into your career mode.

Honestly 40 boxers is about as good as you'll get although Knock out Kings Rosters blew this away.. I just hope they have a ton of guys in career mode that mimick real life boxers but aren't named exactly the same or look exactly like them.

I think you are missing what most people here are saying. I'm not saying that EA should spend a ton of money on signing fighters...im questioning the fighters they choose to spend money on. Heavyweight James Toney over the Kitchckos, Haye or Arreola? Middleweight Toney as a legend I could understand but Heavyweight Toney?

I still question the Foreman signing. I dont see how spending money on Foreman is smart from a business or game perspective.

1) I dont see more people buying the game because Foreman is in the game. People will buy it because of Ali and Tyson but Foreman does have that type of following. People overseas would buy the game if Vlad or Haye was in the game because they have a following there.

2) Foreman doesnt come cheap. I dealt with his people on a potential TV deal and he was expensive as hell. It was a different deal than a video game licensing deal but Foreman thinks very highly of himself and isnt cheap. I cant believe that Vlad was more expensive than Foreman.

3)EA had no trouble contacting the K brothers a few years back. There management hasnt changed and they were champs back then so I dont know why it would be different now.

With that said, If CAB is good with likenesses and fight styles, I'll be happy. If they have a name database that calls out a name, ill be overjoyed.
