I just want to point out a mistake the espn writer made.. When reading it says

NEXT: 2. Chicks did the long ball >>

It should really say

NEXT: 2. Chicks dig the long ball >>

my thoughts exactly, mlb 09 the show will be the most complete and best sports game since NFL 2k5, this is the first sports game since NFL 2k5 where you can see just how much effort the development team has put in to get every single thing right, and add all the details necessary. Thanks SCEA!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as the reviewer. I've only played MLB 2006, MLB '06: The Show, and MLB '08: The Show. And, I thought MLB 2006 completely sucked outside of graphics. MLB '06: The Show was really when the series became a good game in my opinion.
