What's everyone getting so worked up about pre-season rankings for? If my pre-season top 4 last year was this, what level of crazy would I have been called?
1. Phillies
2. Rays
3. Red Sox
4. Dodgers

Free agents are still a plenty, the rankings will change, relax folks. 10th seems a bit high for the Reds, and I'm a Reds fan, but the difference between 10th and 20th is 5 games, 10 max? Relax people. We don't know who is going to be good yet.

Angels, Twins, Reds, Rockies too high.

Rays, Dodgers, Dbacks, Indians, Brewers too low.

Astros had the best fielding % and fewest errors last year in the entire major league, so that equals a 15th ranking?

Uhh..okay.

...and not surprising they make San Diego higher up than they should be, considering they're a San Diego studio.

The Phillies pitching is 10th? hahahahaha Omg how does that work? Hamels (World Series MVP), Blanton (Didn't lose a game with the Phillies), Moyer (Jamie is wine), Myers (did anyone watch him 2nd half of the year), pluse we have Happ, Carrascco, and Kendrick... Do I even need to begin to explain the bullpen because I'm pretty sure Lidge didn't blow one damn save all season, and Madson was the bridge to Lidge baby! But yea 10th sounds right

Surprising, but I'll take it.

I immediately scrolled down to the bottom of the rankings thinking I would find the Reds there. Pleasantly shocked to see them at #10 overall.

They are 11th in the finished game some of those ratings have been changed since CD.

Re: MLB 09: The Show Team Rankings (Pasta Padre)

I don't think you guys completely understand ... the rankings are tied in with each individual player's rating, not just arbitrarily assigned by the devs in an attempt to 'stick it' to your favorite team.

For example, the Tigers were awful in 2008 but great in '08. The reason why it was such is because the rankings:

A) Don't include team chemistry or other external variables.

B) Are based on a conglomerate analysis of each player's rating.

Since the Tigers are loaded with talented players, they are ranked highly despite their 74-88 mark.

This leads to situations where the Cardinals' offense and Astros' defense - who both appear to work as a solid unit, rather than with individual superstars - are ranked lower than they should be.
