Because they want different animations. Some times its a slow mo like the frame freezes and you watch it fro mvery low and u watch the batter. Nest you watch him jog aroudn the bases and touch home.

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

I just can't stay away from news/discussion but I have not played the demo since my last post here. Yes, yes -- I'm a sucker and a hypocrite but I'm back.

The last few pages seem to be dominated by one topic (balls over the head). It's strange how frequently something happens in one person's game and how infrequently it occurs in another, which leads me to my problem.

Since only five or six people have ever commented on this, I assume nobody else has experienced this glitch. However, its existence determines whether I buy the game or walk away so I'd really love a developer or someone to comment so I can get off the fence.

Please, I'd love to be reassured since, like many others, I bought my PS3 for The Show after tearing through the PS2 versions (and recommending them to every baseball fan I know).

Heck, I even ran sabermetric analysis on my franchise in The Show 08 (they call me the king of the spreadsheets/got 'em all printed out on my bedsheets) and I would love to do so again, as long as this error is removed (or even reduced).

edit: If it's reduced, I may employ the house rule we put in place last year when this problem made its first appearance. When it become a problem on an inning-by-inning basis, we gave up.

So, with that said, I put my pride aside....

Please, pretty please with a cherry on top, can anyone help me? Hopefully, this isn't a bizarre, isolated problem (like some of you are having with pitcher grand slams or balls not going over fielders).

And for the record, I have not seen the ball go over an outfielder's head either but I don't give up many hits to the outfield (I'm a ground ball pitcher! ) so the ones I allow tend to be in the gap or Texas Leaguers.

edit: I do love the error and other fielding animations, the new pitching and batting interfaces, as well as all the other improvements (as I touched on in my last post). I don't want to come across as not liking the game and only attacking it, after all!

I so encourage everyone if they see a dev team member to tell them this. Next year they should have more to do with the media. What I mean is have a bunch of media on the field before the game and after the game. Have photographers everywhere in the stands and i mean those professional photographers that are really good. Um also I hope they add fire to the angel stadium night gae when sumone hits a home run. Other things like weather we will like next year and during the 3rd, 7th inning we see the field crew come out and drag the field. We see before the game the field crew walking around. We need more people in the dugouts like sitting up and watchign the game or actually moving around.. thats all i just thought of for right now

Okay...maybe I'm tired or just can't read anymore (both of which are perfectly plausible) but what exactly is the problem you're having?

You've made a compelling case for why it's so important, but not what it is. Did you reference it earlier (I admit I'm much too lazy to go back and check)?

So, uhh...yeah...

EDIT: saw your link (see what I meant about my reading...lol) and know what you're talking about. I didn't have it happen much, but I did see it happen enough.

I haven't noticed it at all in 09, and it seems that it switches the fielder control better thus far (though it's admittedly a much, much smaller sample and I never had as much issue with it as you in 08, so take that for what it's worth).

I personally think you're overreacting, as it wasn't that bad (to me), but everyone has their things that would bug them, so I get you.

If it's still in 09 and it bugs you this much, maybe a PM to the devs could grab their attention and possibly allow for a patch to this. Maybe since, as you say, so few seem to have issue with it (or maybe just don't notice it), they missed it and can catch it for a patch.

That's about the best I could tell you. They are all pretty good about answering their PMs, so give it a shot (if you haven't already)

Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

Had a really cool situation tonight. Utley is on 2nd and Kazmir throws a slider in the dirt that gets away from Navarro and takes a crazy hop towards the dugout. The problem is, he doesn't know where it is. He immediately turns and runs toward the screen with his arms to his side looking for the ball. Meanwhile Utley flies around 3rd and half way home before Navarro realized the ball was in front of the dugout, runs and slides to get it, and fires to Kazmir covering home. Utley slammed on the breaks and beat feet back to 3rd.

I've never seen a C not be able to find the ball in a video baseball game...

I think you need to clarify this to me because what you are saying makes no sense.

I know you play varsity baseball but when I played outfield in college I never slowed up if there was a potential play at the plate. There are ways to charge a ball safely without slowing up that lead right into a good crow hop. No good outfielder uses the excuse of slowing down by saying, oh, there was less than two outs so I didn't want to risk letting the ball get by me for a potential play at the plate.

And btw, I don't know if you meant this the way it sounded, but Blzer knows how the outfield works.

Heh, no worries and thanks for the reply -- I actually have a link in the first paragraph (directly before the "Yes, yes" part) but, to reiterate:

My issue is when you attempt to dive for the ball with an infielder (say, SS or 2B), the outfielder directly behind them automatically dive as well (I refer to this as the double-dive).

Here's the example I gave in my link: "Imagine losing a hard-fought 14-inning playoff game. Well, that's hard enough but what if you lost because your RF joined your 2B in an animation dance simply because you attempted to make a relatively routine diving stab for the ball."

I'm sorry for spamming on the subject but this seems to happen infrequently enough that few seem to comment on it, yet I believe it is a potential problem worth noting.

Thanks again!

edit: Man, I can't believe I forgot to even mention the issue once in my last post. Ha! Sorry about that.
