Re: MLB 09 The Show Demo Available, Post Impressions Here

While it seems like a lot of my sentiments have already been voiced by different people on different threads, nevertheless, here are my thoughts.

What I liked:

-The good is still intact. "The good" being the gameplay in general. It wasn't completely overhauled, and that worked in its favor.
-The pitching seems a bit sharper and faster.
-The presentation. Played on an HDTV and the sweeps and other transitions felt very tv-like.
-Post game stats are extensive and intuitive.

What I disliked:

-The batting. Like everyone else said, this isn't so much a bad thing as much as it is something new to get used to. I was missing a LOT. Though I do remember when I first got the MLB 08 i was off for a while, and then I suddenly "got it"--that rhythm that you get after repeated at bats. Someone mentioned that a lot of it also is probably rust since we haven't really played any baseball games since October--totally believe that.
-Got a wee bit tired of using the Rays and Phillies (especially since my team is the Dodgers), but that's nothing to knock Sony for.
-Again, like somebody else mentioned, the commentary WAS a bit muffled. In terms of the situational commentary, definitely not as polished and realistic as EA sports titles, but I'll live.

Should we really base a lot on a demo? I see a lot of downs on this game, but a lot of those downs are because it is a demo. I mean we are really playing a shell of a game. Maybe I am wrong. I love all the things this game offers, but I am tired of Rays and Philly.

It's not that I can't find out what their strike zone is, it's just that, like in real life, I pretty much know for myself and every one else that I watch bat what is considered too high or too low for them based on their stance. But if an ump takes you to a height chart before you bat and says, "Okay, your strike zone will be from [hand gestures] 'here' to 'here'," it throws you off regardless. You pre-determine what it is the top of the strike zone will be for your player based on how he bats, and when he crouches for it to "enlarge" taller than what it should be, it makes it tough to make those adjustments on the fly because you're not accustomed to swinging at pitches coming to their letters.

I hope that makes sense. It's not as much of a complaint as it is getting you to identify what the strike zone in this game is really like.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH I get you. Yea I had the same problem but you just have to get used to it my friend. Also in the game it matters on plate discipline i believe. Play the demo as Shane Victorino. He doesnt crouch or bend over what-so ever and look how much smaller the strike zone is for him. Thats because he has a good eye and is DISCIPLINE IN REAL LIFE (hint the plate discipline attributes he has)... Some guys check swing better than other like Ryan Howard tr yto check swing with that guy 10 times and 1/10 u will get him to check swing because each player is different and thats what makes this game unique and have so much depth many dont realze because we are used to it and expect it

Strike zone and the individual batters discipline have nothing to do with each other.

How does it not???? Have you ever noticed why you see two players with the same height but one player has a smaller strike zone??
