Basically about 30 minutes worth of speculation.

My argument was, a game doesn't HAVE to have anything INNOVATIVE, especially when it is the best damn baseball game PERIOD.

All they have to do IMO, is fix bugs and glitches, improve on what needs to be improved on (by added what we expect in the game), and keep the presentation fresh.
It is new to the Show that is pretty innovating too me.

I completely agree with what those guys said. Why is the eyetoy in there for PS2 but no PSeye for PS3!

Some more insight on the in game screen shot and/or replay capture would be nice. It would be a huge bummer for me if that falls through.

Re: Padrecast: MLB 09 The Show Fact Sheet!

Can we settle this PS2 EyeToy debate once and for all?
Why would anyone need a camera to make a face in the PS3 version? If you know how to use the face-shaping tools, you should be able to make a face that looks better than any camera could have created. The PS2 version probably (I can't say for sure, since I don't have the PS2 version) doesn't have all of these same feature, and therefore warrants the EyeToy.

As far as innovation goes, I think we need not look any further than RTTS. No baseball game has ever had anything like it. The way gaming is now, it probably takes multiple years to fully implement a new feature. I think with MLB 09, we could see the culmination of everything RTTS was dreamt up to be.

And really, what else could they include? Home Run Derby might be nice. I also kinda liked that Pick-up Game feature All Star Baseball had. Other than that, some people here have suggested an Expansion mode, like the one ASB had. That might be cool, but I'd rather see SCEA add single-A teams and a lot more minor league and spring training stadiums first (to be honest, the quality and number of spring training stadiums, as well as minor league stadiums, were not very good in MLB 08).

Re: Padrecast: MLB 09 The Show Fact Sheet!

I think innovation is becoming just another buzz word. If a game doesn't reformat control schemes or menu interfaces they aren't innovative according to perception. The reality is none of that matter if you ignore the other stuff...like the game itself, for example. The areas of weakness for The Show aren't due to a lack of innovation, they're due to minor quirks and glitches and certain absent stat depth and features. Everything new announced thus far aims at correcting those shortcomings and expanding upon what works already. That's the mark of a consistently good product.

The ones that need to innovate constantly are the ones behind the power curve. This is why 2K baseball feels the need to change it's control scheme and interface each year...they have to grab your attention. 2K8 was largely praised for their new pitching scheme by most reviews. What's funny is that it was a new control scheme for the same pitching interface. Yes, you now move a stick instead of pressing a button, but the results and corrosponding issues remained the same. The obsession with innovation seems to have a tendency to mask real progress. I'd rather they blow out stat tracking, franchise and RTTS features, gameplay fluidity, animations, player models, "singnature styles", presentation, etc further before introducing something "cutting edge."

Baseball is baseball no matter how you try to "innovate" it. When you become so intent on trying to spice it up with flashy features and fail to address the representation of the game itself, you end up with mediocrity at best (maybe interestingly controlled mediocrity, but still mediocrity...lol). Look no further than the competition for that fact.

Thus ends my mini-rant on "innovation"...lol
