FIFA 09 Manager Mode: Become the Next Wenger

Normally no one would raise an eyebrow when they heard that Arsenal whooped on Wigan in a Carling Cup match. But this victory wasn’t particularly noteworthy because of how Arsenal did it, (although that was also impressive) it was noteworthy because of whom Arsenal did it with. Facing a Wigan squad playing at near full-strength, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger eschewed starting his top players, and instead he decided to field a squad of teens, the average age being 19. Kind of looks like a mismatch, right? Well, not really. The youngsters not only outplayed their older compatriots, but they also did so in frighteningly dominating fashion. After the match, Wigan manager Steve Bruce simply said, "They were frightening."

So why is the above story notable? Well, I firmly believe that Wenger has presented and validated an easy and sure path to managerial success; a blueprint to football supremacy. Furthermore, he has taken all of our Football Manager or PES Master mode dreams and brought them to reality. So as I offer you some tips and strategies for FIFA 09's Manager mode, keep this cliché in mind: Imitation is often the most sincere form of flattery.

good read! i would add that if you play in the EPL, you should play your reserves in the "carling cup" ala wenger. helps them develop!

I still really hate FIFA's manager mode. Scouting is absolutely broken, I shouldnt be able to find 19 year old players rated 80+ out of nowhere in the middle of the season. The transfer system blows since you can get anyone with the right money and you can sell any player you want. Contract negotiations are a joke too. The whole financial aspect is just so simplified its almost insulting.

I have to say that I was a little underwelhmed by FIFA 09's Manager mode at first, but it has grown on me. I miss some of the nice touches from my WE9 Master League mode franchise, but the gameplay in FIFA 09 is top notch. While I usually don't care too much about graphics, I have to admit that FIFA 09 is a looker. While I would like to see some of the changes mentioned by dkgojackets I feel better about FIFA 09 than any other EA Sports game. Maybe now that its gameplay and graphics have been polished a lot EA will go to work on its Manager mode and maybe even include something like a Master League mode for players that want a closed pool of teams going head-to-head in a few divisions.

One thing I love about Master League in WE is that when you sign a new player, he's crap on your team until he gets comfortable playing with the guys around him, and that it takes longer to develop chemistry with players. Is this implemented at all in Manager Mode? Even if on a rudimentary level?

as much i love the mode... i did expereince the awful substituion AI last night. aston villa gives my gunners fits every time we play. however, this time they had clearly just played an FA cup game the day before. everyone on their side was nackered. i beat them handily... it got out of hand it the final 20 min when i was running circles around them.

I not sure about becoming the next Wenger. The last thing I read said that his job might be on the line if a Cup win or Premier League title aren't in the cards soon. It's going on five years now since the last one in 2004.

this is one thing that really annoys me!!!!you'd think that EA would put a code into the game to auto-shuffle the cpu line-up,the last version i played on the ps2 had it,so the cpu uses all the players on it's roster!!cheers stench
