Re: Madden 09 Dominates US Sales in August

Let's get something out of the clear. There are lot of gamers like myself who spent a crap load of money on sports games not because I'm loaded but because I support all types of sports games that are good to me. I spend about $400 a year on EA games and out of that 400 maybe $240 are for sports. Let us throw in NBA2K and PES that's another $120. I spend around $520 to be exact a year on sports games including EA. Don't tell me I'm a troll. I want to know what my money for EA is used for?

I've mentioned this before and I'll say it again. This is not a knock on OS because you guys do a very good job maintaining these forums and building a good community. You have to also realize that forums like this can ruin a games sales. I'm not trolling here ok, I'm still talking about sales and game sites have a major hand in it. You gave me an infraction for saying that places like OS and sportsgamers can make or break a video game right?

let me be more clear. Next year when the Madden 2010 demo comes out where do you think everyone will read up on reviews gamespot? Everyone knows about these websites with forums and members lashing out at a product that didn't produce. They will read the same stuff we're saying now and decide Madden 2010 is not for them. There go the sales. Please, don't call me a troll. I like most of the die hard sports fans want to see Madden succeed. I look forward to 2010 to see if they live up to the hype again.

So madden sold about 2.1 million copies of madden at $60 for the ps3 and 360 $50 for the wii and $40 for the ps2. What if they had cut those prices in half? Do you think madden would have sold 5 million if everything 50% off?

They would probably sell more then 2.1 million but the profit margin would be low. After seeing what happened with 09 I doubt cutting the price by 50% will still get those who want to pass to buy a copy. $30 is still too much for a title that doesn't work.

Re: Madden 09 Dominates US Sales in August

I have been buying EA games since 2000, and 2k since 2004. I loved Madden 2000-2004...I did not think a sports game could be better. I thought that with NBA Live 2000-2003 as well until 2004 hit and that's when I tried NBA2k and instantly switched to a 2k gamer for the NBA series. Around the same time NFL2k5 came out. I knew about NFL2k5 and thought...It's $20 it must suck...Madden is $60 it must be great. After playing Madden for a few months I then got bored...I decided to find change around the house and bought 2k5. When I put it in I was like eh...Gonna be crappy. My first game was between the Packers and the Vikings...Lets just say by halftime I was thinking how much in-store credit I can get for Madden. The next day I sold Madden, and that's when I decided I would only buy 2k games. When I heard the news that the NFL would only allow Madden to make the game it was a big let down, because NFL2k5 was and IS the best game in history.

What Im trying to say...Im not a 2k "Fanboy" I think that's pointless. But the quality of any compareable game will go to 2K. If 2K was allowed to make NFL games...Not only would Madden struggle...But after 3-5 years...The Madden tradition would break and the 2K tradition would begin...That is how good of a company 2k is. Eventually 2K would have made a NCAA football game and would have been the same story.

What really makes me mad a lot of people complain about 2k not putting out a lot of stuff, but really...Is that a good trend? It's what EA does and how they survive. 2K survives because that smart gamers choose the better game rather than getting the popular game. I used to be guilty...I used to buy games that were popular because in most peoples eyes popular=quality...Which EA is an exception.

lol this thread is funny. Half the peoplethat posted on this thread shoulda taken 10th grade economics.

Madden rules fellas.

The 0.01% of the total market: outraged 2k fanboys and Ea haters won't do anything to effect Madden sales.

Make that 0.0000001%.

I guess you guys should play fantasy football at NFL.com

Just like the others, you prove my point while trying to argue yours.

That name isn't going anywhere. It's been around for 20 yrs, despite ANY and ALL competition that has ever attempted to dethrone it. It's the name people buy and will continue to buy. Sorry.

And let's not forget, All Pro Football DID throw in rappers to promote the game... people still bought Madden.

You're clinging so tightly to the hope that Madden fails, that you just can't accept the fact that it has gone far beyond a game at this point. It has become a culture.

Hell, ESPN has done a Madden Nation show for four years now. And, need I remind you, when 2K OWNED THE ESPN LICENSE, what game sponsored NFL Tonight ON ESPN? MADDEN.

Don't ignore what's right in front of your face because you wish you were looking at something else. Facts are facts. And while I too wish this whole situation were different, it's just not gonna happen. Not any time soon anyway, that is for certain.

Case closed.

Another sad example of a sucker getting sucked into the Madden hype. No doubt I play and buy Madden once every 3 years to check if they have made progress. I finally bought my copy the other day...I came away not very impressed. Just because the game has numerous flaws does not mean I wont play it...I just wont buy it for another three years. It's kind of hard not to play it because it's like our only source for NFL gaming(Thanks to EA for eliminating superior competition). You are mistaken if you think this game is worthy of next gen gaming though.

Re: Madden 09 Dominates US Sales in August

I didn't infer anything about the quality of Madden. I'm disappointed with Madden too.

All I'm saying is

Madden is the most popular sports game, always has been and always will be.

2k sports releasing an nfl game won't do **** to madden sales.

Its king of the jungle mate.
