Re: NBA 2K9 Video Footage (Multiplayer.it)

Likes:

-Auto basket facing in the midrange area. In 2k8 if you dribbled back out to the perimeter, the player would turn completely away from the basket. I saw Ray Ray dribble backwards from about 15 feet.

-Smoother basic right to left crossovers. Very nice animation there.

-Dream Shake

-Baseline turnaround didn't hit the side of the backboard. Finally. I hope this means all backboard hitting shots are eliminated.

-Breakaway speed is increased. Rondo was GONE.

-Better oop.

-Player textures look really good.

Didn't like:

-Commentary. Should be fixed according to SB.

-Game moves much faster. Starting to look like last-gen Live with the fast motions and sliding. I always crank the speed down a notch anyway though so I'm not worried about the pace.

-Isomotion spin move/behing the back move needs to either suck the defender in, or not work at all. Looks like they toned it down, but now if it doesn't deke the defender, tha animation makes him "Mario run" in place. Needs a "failed attempt" animation like the Y-button post moves, cuz' having PP spin into a sliding defender several times looked pretty bad. This speaks to the consensus that Lives interactions are starting to pull ahead.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the footage at that stage. Movement looks smoother, and nothing is more fun or satisfying than playing OS'ers who know how to move around the court with grace, and it looks like 2K9 will make it even easier. The changes looke subtle but I can appreciate those fixes when an overhaul isn't really needed. Still pumped for this.

SimBaller, please, just for me... fix pierce's jumper and make it less rigid. The guy is smooth when he pulls up and has a little bit of a natural fade when he shoots off the dribble. It's a different shot than when he takes a set shot 3. If you put separate animations for that in the game, I will love you.
SimBaller, never take advice about a player from a respective fan, there is a 90% chance they are just being biased.

That being said...I hate the Nets and Sean William's potential rating should be 99

Re: Saw this on the 2k sports forums

I honestly did not notice the lack of crowd noise after the KG dunk, but I did notice that the stadium sounds are the same from 2K8. Same P.A. music, for example. Also, while I want to trust SimBaller as far as the notion that the commentary will be much improved, that won't really be the case unless the commentary system and commentary cues are improved.

I do agree with SimBaller about people flying off the handle... Take your time making a polished product, and I'll reserve judgment for later. For me, this one will be won or lost in the demos, which we will hopefully be able to download.

(Marv: Thanks Cheryl let’s hope they can do just that with the bench!

Clark: Well the Lakers do have a great bench with Vujacic, Farmar, and a few other players who can definitely come in the game and score, and help pick up the momentum!
I think you mean Kenny and not Marv... even at that, this commentary is hardly feasible. I am impressed with the commentary in MLB 08, which often uses phrases with 3 "specifics" -- that is, three or so items which accurately describe the play that just happened, such as "2-out hit," etc.

Your example has too many name cues to work, and unless they used name-cue variables (which 2K isn't very good at using), these lines would never see the light of day after 2 years in The Association when Farmar is traded or something doesn't align quite right.

Remember LBJ splitting the HELL out of that double team against your Jazz in the league? Dude backs up, double team is coming, goes RIGHT between them and has a wide open layup.. thing of beauty man

Re: NBA 2K9 Video Footage (Multiplayer.it)

Looks like enough folks complained about the animations taking too much control...the iso moves can be canceled alot sooner now, which may give us more control but at this point looks fugly. In that vid there were several instances where a crossover, or idle animation started but got cut off mid way. People who dug Lives greater feeling of control should be happy.

Models are alot lankier. Nice.

Really don't like the overall game speed....

Looks like 2K took some steps toward Live, and vice versa. Pretty soon we won't be able to tell them apart at a glance.

LOVE the new layup animations. They look great.

I buy this game every year, don't see why this year would be any different. Hope they got a little more Stadium specific stuff in.

I hope they fix the block animation. I get so mad when I know exactly when someone is going to shoot but my guy can't jump fast enough.
