Re: NCAA Football 09 Patch Announcement

The only thing that's going to save this game for me, is if they include that slider fix in the second patch. As for ''wide open game play'' - It's terrible. Probably the worst feature to date, at least for me - It even beats out my old ''favorite'' - ''create a fan.'' If I had to choose, I'd pick create a fan.

Any news on the whole slider issue being included in the 2nd patch yet? My fingers have been crossed.

My problem is that they chose to program/dumb down the defense in favor of this silly wide open game play. That's a decision that the company made to be able to deliver the "wide open gameplay".

That's why I'm so frustrated. They're not bugs and they didn't slip by the testers. It's programmed the way they want it to be programmed. Unfortunately, it's terrible for the sim gamers.
Agreed--this is a conscious decision to foster a certain kind of gameplay that caters to a certain kind of customer. In related news, I saw a recent vid of Madden which was billed as "big play" somethingorother, and after purchasing NCAA and seeing just what the dev crew meant by "wide open gameplay," I'm thinking that Madden will have a similar commitment to this style of gaming.

I don't mind some offense, but it's frustrating when it feels like true defensive games are not one of the intended outcomes envisioned by the designers. I would love to see a 13-10 game on 8 min. quarters between relatively evenly matched teams, but I'm not sure I can get that in this game. I'm going to go and test some of the latest slider theories to see if they mitigate the the situation.

Re: NCAA Football 09 Patch Announcement

The great and mighty Sony MLB franchise had a constant freezing issue in MLB 06 (and the current version, while I love it, had to be patched almost immediately and still has a fair amount of bugs). 2K baseball (for two years running) had MAJOR glitches at release...the franchise freeze in 07 and roster issues (sound familiar) this year. While I'm not saying it is acceptable for this to happen...it does, and not just with EA. They issued an immediate response and are already putting a patch in the works. To me, the up front response shows improvement over years past with EA. They certainly aren't hiding from us. To me, what's done is done. Criticism is fine (it's what has led to interaction from the devs, I'm sure) but the repetative "typical EA" stuff seems pointless to me. It's not like it's unplayable until the patch comes out (I mean literally unplayable, not the dramatic "unplayable"). To each his own though. It sucks, but I've moved on...

Well, I have a little more hope for some offensive/defensive balance in Madden since they are trying to "simulate" the difference in the college game. But, you're right...as long as the majority (and let's not kid ourselves, we are the minority) of gamers aren't screaming for a more sim-style type game, we will always be stuck compromising on some key elements unfortunately.

Re: NCAA Football 09 Patch Announcement

I think imo, that most people's frustration comes from the fact that their was some great logic for defenses and qb in previous versions and every year something changes. It would seem that once you have great qb logic you would keep that in future versions and when you have great Defense you would keep that logic and move on. I don't know much about programming and I don't pretend too, but IT seems that the code for logic would already exist from previous versions and that code could be implemented into current and future versions. I mean logic is logic... right? I could be wrong but the me ea tries to reinvent the wheel to much instead of buidling on small great aspects of the game.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, the aspects ea focused on are great imo. Kudos again to EA. I think the game is close and hepfully patches will tweak it and get it close. I just don't want to feel helpless in the gamem I want a chance on certain aspects of the game.
