Major League Baseball 2K8 360 Impressions

I actually enjoy fielding more in 2k8 over the Show. Really like the throwing meters and throwing to the bases with the R Stick.

Seems much ado about nothing, really. There's some hiccuping but I haven't had any that made me want to forum vent. Haven't played online. Is it 60 FPS? Shrug. I have no idea. It doesn't feel 100% polished if that makes any sense (and yes there's sa LOT of recycled commentary) and for me I'll need to do a lot of base slider stuff because I really dislike the power settings (homers are indeed flying out of the park left aand right) and I'm still not sold on the runner speed/ outfield arm stuff.

One thing that is annoying is that in the games I have played today it's hard to draw walks because if the ball just nicks the strikezone the ump calls it a strike, so you basically have to swing at anything that's close.

Right now the draw for me is the new pitching UI.

lol, I played a full season in 2k6, with rocket arms an all.I think I can handle framerate hiccups.

I can't get the game today though(360 still being repaired!)..My bro just picked up the Show though, so that will keep me busy.

Well I just got finished playing my first four games.

First and foremost, it's a great game. There are some obvious drawbacks, but overall I definitely feel justified in my purchase. For starters, the new fielding is awesome. Definitely brings back memories of MVP Baseball. Second, while frustrating at first, the pitching is actually pretty damn cool. My first game was Atlanta vs Baltimore, and John Smoltz gave up 6 runs in the first inning (lawl). However, after hitting pause and going into the in-game pitching tutorial (which is pretty sweet btw) I found myself really getting the grasp of what to do, and loved every second of it. The games atmosphere is great, much like last year. Same with the overall presentation, with the exception of the new pre-game load screen which I am not crazy about. Speaking of the graphics, it's clear they dumbed them down in some areas (i.e. the grass/field), but the game seems to run a lot more seamlessly because of it.

As far as the drawbacks are concerned, there's only a few (imo). For starters, the frame-rate does slow down on occasion immediately following a hit. Likewise when throwing from the outfield into the infield. However, this does not make the game unplayable like some clowns here have suggested. To be honest, I hardly even notice it. I suppose if you were going out of your way find something to bitch about, it's there.

My only two other complaints would be a few of the player ratings don't make any sense. For example, Johan Santana is rated at 100 (after going 15-13 last year), but Fausto Carmona an 84 (after winning 19 games?). I am not even an Indians fan, but c'mon 2K...

Also the game menu is very dark. Like a black/red type theme. Definitely wished they had just stuck with the blue, as it tends to make things like saving/loading kind of hard to see at first lol.

Ultimately after a few games I feel it's definitely better than 2K7, but am not overly wow'd by at it yet. I'd suggest renting for anyone still on the fence, otherwise see you kids online.
