Yup, I know a couple Caps STH who did exactly that.

Thing is, the Whitecaps could've come out of this looking like heroes. They could've kept their huge markup and said at the time of single game tickets becoming available, "If Messi doesn't play, the markup gets refunded to your account; you only get charged the standard price for a ticket in that section". Worst case scenario, they still get 50,000 butts in seats (average attendance is 15-20K) and gain a fan-friendly rep when Messi inevitably no-showed.

Re: MLS Discussion Thread

It’s funny because this format was supposed to protect the likes of Miami from losing in the first round.

MLS Discussion Thread

LA Galaxy simply have too much fire power for Minnesota to keep up. But my lord several Galaxy players were dramatically barrel rolling across the pitch at any kind of contact. What an annoying collection of players they have.

Re: MLS Discussion Thread

Herdman "resigned" from Toronto FC. Been all downhill for him since he tried to f*** with Croatia.

Re: MLS Discussion Thread

I've never really cared about MLS, but I would still catch a game every once in a while and at least be generally aware of what was going on. But ever since they moved the entire league behind the apple paywall, the league might as well not exist. I've seen and heard absolutely nothing about it all year except for the fact that Messi's team lost. I just happened to stumble upon the fact that the final is coming up.

I have no idea what their numbers look like but I have to imagine they're struggling to bring in new fans with this setup outside the temporary Messi bump.

I am fully aligned with you. My family and I have been big Seattle Sounders fans and the last two years we've gone from watching 30-40 games per year on local broadcast TV to less than 10 total (across the 2 seasons), and when I do watch it's via some illegal streaming site.

It's really frustrating and I don't think it helped the "average person" watch the games.

On another note, the Sounders got the "group of death" at the Club World Cup, drawing PSG, Atletico Madrid, and Botafogo.

Re: MLS Discussion Thread

I'd be curious to see what the ratings are like on Apple TV for the MLS.

There's still a few games in Canada that are free on TSN but I really miss watching Toronto FC regularly on free TV. I watched them all the time when they were good and even when they were bad (which is most of their years in the league) I would watch them while channel surfing between sports events. I rarely watched them at all last season because of the Apple pay wall. Not the best way to grow the sport.
