Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Sens look to be getting the LeBreton land to build their new arena.

Right by downtown Ottawa, right by the border with Quebec.

Could be 30 minutes quicker (maybe saving even more with traffic) for a Sens fan to even get to that new arena, that's real big for them. And 30 mins from the train station (also a bonus if anyone such as Leafs fans are going there) which wasn't possible outside of transfers and a 2 hour trip to CTC.

And now just 2.5 hours for Habs fans to get there too.

With Coyotes finally moved and Sens/Flames now getting their arena situation fixed, I wonder who is next? Or does Bettman really think Atlanta 3.0 and Arizona 2.0 are the next expansion steps........

It'll be weird being in an NHL where there SHOULDN'T be relocation or expansion talks (has that even been the case for almost 20 years?) As much as the league wants 34 teams for some reason (it doesn't even make sense division wise), I'm fine with sticking with 32 for the rest of the 20s.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

The IIHF is looking in to 3 on 3 hockey for the Olympics (as a separate event from the main hockey).

Don't know how well it would go, specifically if it's featuring players nobody heard of. But at the same time, it's not like you have former players who'd be part of it either.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Looks like Trouba has played his last game in NY and they're working on a trade.

Feels weird seeing a team sit their captain for trade related reasons. Usually if a captain is traded it just happens, but having him possibly being a healthy scratch for that reason seems weird.

He has a NTC so he's likely choosing where he goes, but I see Detroit being that spot.

Such a weird situation, especially since they're thinking of waiving him should he refuse to waive his NTC (so that if a team on his NTC list wants him, the Rangers won't retain much salary, but Trouba says no, then the team can just have him at 100% of his 8m cap hit). A current captain being claimed on waivers would be up there for crazy moves.

I'm sure teams hate no Coyotes in the NHL anymore. Could've traded Trouba to Arizona, they retain 25-50% of his salary, then he gets shipped to the actual team he's going to.

Edit- He's going to the Ducks

Edit- They used the freed up cap space to sign Shesterkin to an 8 year 92m deal. 11.5m per year! Sure, he's a top 3 goalie in hockey, but 11.5m is crazy.

Don't know what's worse, Atlanta 3.0 or more expansion.

I'm already not a fan of the 4 divisions of 8 format they have right now (NFL style wouldve been best scenario), but 34 teams?

Unless you're just doing 2 conferences and 0 divisions, how do you balance that?
