Tom Izzo to coach the Cavs?

I didn't see this posted. If it's already being discussed, delete it.

EDIT: Seems like they've extended him an offer. Would he be a good fit in Cleveland?

Brian Windhorst is reporting that Gilbert has officially given Izzo an offer. 5 years, 6 mill per.

And I die a little bit inside.

Re: Tom Izzo coach the Cavs?

Tom Izzo seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't jump to the pros but he's done basically all you can do at the college level. He seems like a fairly levelheaded coach who doesn't have TOO much of an ego. He could be a very good fit if Cleveland decides to go a bit younger.

Personally there's been 4 current and recently retired coaches who i'd love to see in the pros who I can't see taking the bait. Jim Boeheim (sp). Izzo, Coach K and Bobby Knight. So if Izzo does go to Cleveland i'll be watching with great interest.

Ouch. That's a big committment for an unproven guy at the NBA level.

And use of a private jet. LOL

On Monday, Gilbert was close to offering Izzo a contract totaling about $6 million per season for up to five years. Additional perks would be included, such as use of a private jet.

Why can't they just make an offer to Larry Brown?

Man....I'm scared this is going to lead to the 10 letter "R" word.

Re: Tom Izzo coach the Cavs?

A college coach getting $6m per season is ridiculous. I remember hearing that the Nets were going to offer Coach K up to $10m per season and this is just as ridiculous.

I don't really pay attention to coaching salaries so how high up would $6 mil be on the coaching scale? Top 5?
