Men's style guide thread

ok guys I need some advice. I have a wedding this weekend and I'm the MC so i wanna look sharp. I already have a nice grey suit that looks a bit like this:

I was wondering what shirt/tie combo you guys would work well with this? Should i wear cufflinks (i've got some decent gold ones)? Should i have a folded handkerchief in the pocket?

Thanks fella's

I say yes on the pocket square and since it's a wedding, a white-shirt/black-tie combo will ALWAYS work well. Don't get those big ties though, get one that's 3-inches at its widest point (the bottom). If you're feeling more fashionable, rock a skinny tie.

Hey man thanks for the advice. I think you might be right to go for the classic look. So basically i was thinking grey suit, white shirt, black tie, white pocket square, black shoes, cuff links.

Kinda like this with a white pocket square:

What do you guys think of gold watches on guys? I own a nice seiko gold watch that was a gift but it seems a bit "showy" so i don't wear it often.

Personally, I'd go with brown shoes. Black is safe. Brown screams for attention. Can't go wrong with either one though.

As for the watch, I'd go with something silver/dark or watches with leather straps.

The great thing with a grey suit you can wear brown, black, and maroon shoes. Remember you leather should match meaning your belt and your shoes.

Skinny ties are in but I rather classic looks because 5-10 years from now you don't look outdated when see the wedding picks. French cuffs with cuff links is a nice move but remember to match your metals relative to your watch. The reason why I would go with the cufflinks, a silk pocket square because during the reception you can take your tie off and party and still look fresh.

I know you want to wear a black tie but it is spring and you can add nice color to a grey suit with a nice tie/pocket square.

Re: Men's style guide thread

hey guys thanks again for the advice. I was talking to my sister in law and she suggested a white shirt with red/burgundy tie. My suit has flashes of red (the button stitching is red) and the bridal party is black dresses with red highlights so she thought the red would go nicely considering i'm the MC.

You guys think if i go with the red tie i should go with a matching red handkerchief for the pocket? I think that would look pretty cool. I've got a nice stainless watch that i think i'll wear with silver cufflinks, matches nicely and a bit more understated.

I like silk pocket squares. Check out this youtube vid on how to fold them.

You don't have to go with matching tie/handkerchief because you can use you handkerchief to bring out colors in both your tie and suit. In all honesty I never wear matching tie/handkerchief.
