This would be so cold if it were what we could have with a license simulation from this company...we can't HAVE GREAT THINGS!

I just hate that the NFL chosen the Bag💰
Over their product
That goes against their principles about caring about the shield

Re: The NFL 2k ERA Dream

That concept of the era's from 2k would be amazing...
I would also love it if that could do an updated version of Tecmo Super Bowl, I know there are knock off that are sold places with the game and updated rosters. It just would be nice if you could just buy an updated version with a career mode on the Xbox, PSN, or Steam store!

Half of the League are cash poor legacy owners. $50mil, money for nothing.

Hopefully allowing the venture capitalists to buy in can push them toward a better reality.

.. I would be curious if this could work regarding the NFL.

Very easy for the NBA, 12-15 guys per team. 5x that for the NFL. How would that work $$-wise?!

For the life of me I can't figure out how OOTP baseball has the rights to the entirety of MLBs history. You can literally start any season, and go forward, recreating your own history, or playing out seasons with historical teams players and transactions. Its absolutely insane.

Generally, names and statistics are considered public information which are not copyrightable. This is mostly-settled case law which facilitates the continued existence of online fantasy sports platforms without the need for league and player association licenses.

The moment an entity attempts to authentically replicate a person's appearance in any meaningful capacity, that is when NIL / right of publicity kicks in. The approximate likenesses recreated by the PS2 and PS3 versions of NCAA Football did cross this line, and that's why EA Sports got sued.

I admit I have never played OOTP, and have no idea how thoroughly the game attempts to recreate historic player likenesses. The Fumble Dimension video I watched about OOTP didn't seem to have accurate player likenesses from what I remember, but I'm also not super familiar with MLB and wouldn't know what most players are supposed to look like. If there is no attempt or there is only a very hand-wavy attempt at likeness by OOTP, I could see how the game arguably gets right up to the line of NIL without infringing right of publicity.

Additionally, the gameplay of OOTP also helps. A lot of the game's gameplay takes place in menus and UI. The developers generally do not have to meet the graphical demands of modern AAA sports games. To demonstrate the difference here: a recreation of Bo Jackson in Madden would be received far less favorably if he were portrayed without his jersey #34, without a neck roll and elbow pads, without his vintage Riddell helmet and three-bar face mask, and without his flat top hair style (all portrayed in modern-day graphical fidelity). OOTP has no similar graphics technology concerns.

Finally, OOTP probably also enjoys a bit of security in obscurity, as text simulators and front office sports games fit in a very niche genre with a smaller number of very dedicated players. There probably isn't enough money on the line to make a lawsuit suing the game out of existence worthwhile.

Thank you for the explanation!

OOTP has beefed up their graphic presentation the last couple years, but its essentially like revisiting 8-bit NES.

Behind the curtain though.. it has so many layers, its almost too complex to play.

Totally get that. OOTP feels like a baseball spreadsheet dream come true, ridiculously deep under the hood, even if it still looks like it's from the 90s. Honestly, kind of love that about it.
