My copy of NBA 2K13 won't work?

I'm starting a new thread because the glitch thread hasn't helped me out.

I have a PS3 Slim, works fine, no problems. I know that NBA 2K13 has its share of glitches, but I just bought this game and it won't even start up. The disc condition is fine, and I know that this "black screen" glitch has been around for a while, but everybody else seems to have gotten around it somehow. I've heard that people can delete their game data and then a reinstall will make it work properly, but trouble is, I don't have game data because it won't start!

2K Sports released a patch/update that fixed this issue, but I can't even download the latest update for the game because all I get is this dreaded black screen. My internet connection is fine, so I don't understand what is going on. Just black screen whenever I give it another chance.

I just really want to play this game. It's like the NBA Live powers that be are cursing me because I finally gave up on Live '10 (which is why I bought this). Here is a link to a video I recorded while the glitch was occurring. The PS3 makes a funny noise, as if the disc is doing something or can't be read. I've never heard this noise before, and no other game does it. Has anyone else's copy made this sound?

I had this happen with my first PS3 slim. It sounds like the disc drive is broken. Have you been able to play other games?

Oh, yeah. Everything else (movies, games) works fine. No problems.

Is your PS3 connected to the internet? If it's not, I'm 100% sure that's what's causing it. For whatever reason, 2K basically mandated that you be connected to the internet 100% of the time in order to play this game, or else it doesn't really function properly. I know from personal experience, I was having the EXACT same problem when my cable/internet was out for a couple of days and when it came back the game suddenly started working again.

If you ARE connected to the internet, then I honestly don't know what to tell you...

Nevermind, I see that your internet connection is fine...that's really odd.

You need to have it connected to the internet or disable the network manually in your network settings in the xmb. I had this problem when I moved to a new apartment and tried to play without having internet access on my first night there. Didn't work until I disabled the internet connectivity.

I've disabled the internet, and the black screen still happens.
