Need some tips regarding creating space

I like to run a half court offense but my problem is that the AI D is always extremely tight. They are almost glued to me constantly. My teammates will sometimes get open off some randomly run plays but most of the time they either get caught up inside or their defender is still with them after the play unfolds.

So i'm wondering what are some tips or techniques to better create space between you and the defender but also on the floor in general.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need some tips regarding creating space

there are a few things that work pretty well most of the time:

1) run players off screens. they'll do this themselves if no set play is called, and when they pop out they will get an open look half the time.

2) use picks. this can be with the quick pick and roll or as part of a regular set play. if youve got a quick PG he can beat the defender to the hoop and either draw a foul or hit a layup. or if the defender recovers try hitting the PF for a jumper or as he is rolling to the basket.

3) use the step-back. if youre having trouble creating your own shot without using screens or picks, try this. while dribbling, hit Y (on the 360) while pushing the stick away from the basket. your player will hop backwards and pick up his dribble. almost always creates enough space to get a decent shot off.

hope that helps.

Use the size up dribbles in isomotion that are triggered by RT and LT separately. The defender normally staggers off the ball handler in response to the size up dribbles. When they do back off even an inch, you have created enough space to get your shot off; as always the quickness of a shooters release plays a big part in whether the shot will be well contested or not.
