Question for Player Rating guru's

I am having trouble figuring out how to make a player get more walks/strike out more. In my tests it seems that base on ball numbers are especially low. The closest I can get to simulating a guy like McGwire and Bonds who would walk almost 200 times a season is around 100. Same goes for strikeouts, its almost impossible to make a player hit for a decent average and with power and have him strikeout alot. And forget trying to create Tony Gwynn only striking out 30 or 40 times a season. Can anyone tell me which stats directly effect what? Are there hidden stats?

Re: Question for Player Rating guru's

Is this for when simming or doing CPU vs. CPU games?

I looked at the stats and ratings relationships in simmed games quite extensively in MLB 11 (not guaranteed MLB 12 is the same, but I think they are, all things considered...), and I agree with your observations. That it's not really possible to create players who do these things (i.e., walking and avoiding strikeouts) exceptionally well.

At Plate Vision = 99, the player would still strike out about 65 times in 550 at-bats.

At Plate Discipline = 99, the player would still only walk about 70 times in 550 plate appearances.

I find in general the dynamic range is lacking in the current system... meaning, players with 0 rating should perform much poorer, and with 99 rating perform much better. This year, I'm testing similar stuff with CPU vs. CPU games and not simmed games... and I think the dynamic range is probably even narrower there.

What the game does very well, however, is to simulate average players. The game does an excellent job there.
