I need passing tips

Because right now, I am throwing way too many interceptions. I cannot throw the ball unless the WR is within 15 yards, and the only time I can throw it past that is if they are wide open. I try to throw it to a WR in 1-on-1 coverage, but it seems like the WR makes no attempt to catch the ball at all and the CB has a free play. I can only complete passes on plays like curls (although it seems the WR just stands there while the CB actually runs towards the ball), slants (but sometimes the defender will come underneath and jump in front of it), and just out/in routes. My TE is by far my most productive receiver usually catching 100+ yards.

Through 13 games I have thrown 33 INT. I play on All-Madden with the sliders of
Me
QBA: 30
Pass Block: 0
WR Catching: 40
CPU
Reaction Time: 5
Interceptions: 25
Pass Rushing: 20

I don't want to just lower the INT value since all it will do is just make it so they drop free INTs. WRs will still seem to make no effort at all for the ball, and CBs will just knock down anything.

What are some tips on hot-routes and reading coverages? I am also sacked a lot too, which lead to my starting QB getting hurt 3 times over 2 years. Do I just have to lower the defense's slider to make it easier on me?

Re: I need passing tips

Make sure your moving your protection around, if your going to pass the ball pinch your line and keep a TE or a HB in to block maybe even both.

I assume your playing with the Rams? So a big factor in your passing game is going to be getting Jackson going in the first half so that the play action will actually work in the 2nd half.

Are you trying to go deep alot? I only go deep for 2 reasons, 1. I just got a big run and am actually trying to complete a long pass, or 2. I'm just throwing it deep to get the safeties off my ***.

If you are using the Rams try sending lloyd deep to clear some room then hit some short passes to Amendola AKA the poor mans welker cause he can be money with some room.

Other than that make sure you understand your plays, know where your wideouts will be instead of having to look them down, and most most importantly (can't stress this enough cause it took awhile for me to come to terms with this) IF ITS NOT THERE THROW IT AWAY!! lol but seriously don't be afraid to punt cause you had to throw it away on 3rd down.

Also if you have to dink and dunk up the field, be happy with those short passes cause guess what your moving the ball and every time you move the ball even a little it'll help open it up later.

P.S. if your still having trouble switch to the zoomed camera and go to practice mode and get used to using it. Its cut my INTS by at least 50% since switching to it cause it forces you to know the outside routes and allows you to focus on the middle of the field and be more aware of the rush.

Re: I need passing tips

Having a good TE being that much of a weapon isn't too unusual. TEs ARE tough if they are good pass catchers.

For curls, I like the pull back on the L-stick and throw just as the WR starts to break down for the comeback. This pulls the WR in more and sometimes create an animation where they catch it with the intention of turning it outside and upfield (when he catches it, he's turned a bit instead of just squared up on the ball).

Slants - watch the windows and if the DB is underneath, go elsewhere. Likewise if the slant is behind the LB, either hit him before he reaches the LBs or wait until he crosses and see if you can't hit him after he passes the last LB in the zone (or between the SS and OLB if the OLB is in a buzz zone).

Corners - watch the WR release and how the DB is covering him as he heads down field. If the DB is going to be over the top when the WR completes his cut to the corner, pull back and towards the hash on the L-stick and make a firm throw. This should help the WR keep position. If the WR is open in a hole in the zone, pull in to the hash on the L-stick to help keep the QB from leading him out of bounds. I've wasted more than a few good corner routes by missing that...

If you're getting pounded with the blitz, start calling middle routes that are short. Since you're confident with slants and ins, those are good, quick routes that can burn a blitz. This is where your TE can really come to play if the LBs are getting in the blitz action. The all-curls route combination where the TE (or slot WR if you run the 3-WR I-Form set version) is slanting and then ends in a curl is a good 5-6 yds against a MLB blitz or any blitz with 2 LBs coming (except in the 3-4 if it's just the OLBs coming. The ILBs might still have bracket position on the TE.

Another quick route combo you can try is where one WR is running a hitch on the outside and the flanker (pulled over to have a 2-WR set on the weak side) is running an out. Against a flats or hook zone, this forks the DB covering that zone - he can't cover both. See which one he goes to, and hit the other route. Against a buzz zone, the out will be open most of the time.

This hits fast so you should have to time to read it against the blitz, and with fewer defenders, even a zone blitz can't likely cover this. They have to man blitz.

Against a determined blitz - west coast it up and work in some screens as well. I mean true, old 49ers' style west coast. Lots of short stuff, hit the backs, use screens, use the fullback if he's open, take your 4-6 yds - occasionally try a 10-12 yd route (especially with good SPD/RTE WRs - they can get there in about a second or so - most blitzes can't get you quite that fast and you can pinch the OL to help stop the ones that can - A-gap pressures). Use space to hit WR and yards after catch, and if they are blitzing, there should be plenty of spaces.

If the defense is slowing down from the blitzing and/or you're getting your protections to slow it down, consider sending your TE on a deep post if the LBs are blitzing. If he's there, throw a high, firm pass in the window and let him go up and get it. If the LBs stay in, have a short route you can go to or be ready to get out of the pocket so you can throw it away.

Screens are good against the blitz. Of course because you're baiting them in, but even if it doesn't go for a big play, you're making them chase the QB, then chase the ball carrier after the pass, so it tires them.

Re: I need passing tips

I had that trouble when I first start playing; however, I have gotten to the point where I will throw the short passes to the players who are open, then trying to go deep with a receiver who is well covered.

Sounds like you may be throwing to late... You should throw immediately after planting your 3rd, 5th, or 7th step on practically every route on the game.

Take a moment to set your clock in practice mode with OFFENSE ONLY. Don't throw the ball, just count your QB's steps so you have it in your head when he plants his back foot. It will certainly help your passing game by preventing sacks and delivering passes as your receiver breaks.
