Article on taking Wrs in 1st two rounds

I've said in many threads that there's no way I'd take anything but a RB high in the draft, so it goes without saying that I'd think going WR/WR in the first two rounds is suicide. Well, this article on cbssportsline actually makes a lot of good points and some sense.

I still don't completely agree with the idea (it's always easier to find a diamond WR on waivers than a RB. Usually RBs get a chance when the starter in front of them gets injured and then the entire league is scrambling to pick up the back up), but I'll definitely show WRs a little more respect now.

If I'm picking 8-10, I usually will look WR, but other anything before that, I still think RB is the way to go. I pretty much just go best player available with every pick. I have the last pick (10th) in my league that I pay to be in, and each team gets 1 keeper, so I'm keeping Steve Slaton and I'll probably go WR with my first pick.

See, it's tough without knowing everyone else that was kept but in a redraft I still think I go RB anywhere in the top 10. For your league (and your situation) I guess it's more like do you go RB/RB in the top 20. I'm not as hard set on that (this year... previous years I'd still lean that way) but depends on who's there. I still wouldn't touch a QB that early.

Steve Slaton (mine)
Fitzgerald
Braylon Edwards
Michael Turner
Tomlinson
Gore
Peterson
Kurt Warner or Marshawn Lynch
Forte or Tom Brady (he's a Patriots fan)
DeAngelo Williams or Peyton Manning

After all those guys are gone, I'll have the 10th pick.

I agree with you...I think the bottom of the barrel receivers are better than bottom of the barrel running backs, so I'd still want at least 1 stud RB. I do get what he means though, with teams spreading the ball out if you can get a guy like Fitz who puts up huge numbers you'll be at a bigger advantage than other guys who wait and end up with guys who have lower production.

It'd make me consider going WR before QB, especially since in most leagues a few guys reach on the top QB's too early.

I'd try to get a RB if I were you, but the next best may end up being a WR. Looks like a potential 8 will be gone (wouldn't take Lynch even if he was there if I were you) so that still leaves CJohnson, Jackson, Westbrook, Portis that I'd take before most WRs. Barber, Jacobs and Ronnie Brown I'd take before the next tier of WRs (that may be gone by the time you get to 10).

Yeah I'll always take a WR before a QB... usually 2. Definitely was a good read. I come across a good one every now and then. I'll try to remember to throw the link up over here when I do.

Yeah he didn't have many options on his keeper.
