Player ratings and their importance.

I'm just wondering how others feel about the player ratings in NHL...and how much they really matter.

I think like every other sports game, the speed rating is always the most visible. So you know that one works/matters. As far as ratings go in NHL, I believe the goalie ratings seem to matter quite a bit. And I like to think other player ratings do too.

At least to me...the higher rated offensive players seem to be better at getting into a better position to score. And much the same for defense men...seem to be in the right spot more often, than a lower rated player. And from time to time...the higher rated AI controlled players will make plays on their own.

So imo..I do think the player ratings at least have some value. What do you guys think?

Yeah, except i think speed is overrated can you really tell a difference between the fastest skater in game to guy who is middle speed? They almost all skate same and move the same way a new skating engine could really help that

The goalie attributes work as such:

If playing against user: +10 to every stat
If playing for user: -10 to every stat

eh, I disagree

I notice the difference just fine

sure the skating engine isnt great, but its not because speed isnt differentiated imo

Speed is pretty good, line up 2 guys of different speeds and skate down the ice, there's a pretty big difference. But players can stop and start way too easily, and can skate backwards, without losing speed, thats the bigger problem than overall player speed.

I think there just needs to be a bigger differential in skating speeds, and agility

guys getting open I definitely see a difference, and shooting

you can really see the diff between a big shooting guy, and someone that just has an average shot

Re: Player ratings and their importance.

Speaking of player ratings, I have a question.. does anyone else wonder why forwards always have better Slap Shot Accuracy than defensemen? Why is that? When you think about it, it makes no logical sense. I guess you could argue that They shoot more (maybe so anyways) than d-men usually do. (No I don't honestly think that, just looking for something). Or that because they're closer to the net more times so their slapshots have a higher chance of going in. (Again, yes it's ridiculous to think that's why).

I know it's not always the case and that someone like Drew Doughty or Mike Green will obviously have a high SS Acc. But across the board, the majority of the time a mediocre fwd will have a better SS Acc than a really good defensemen. And I'm just curious as to why.

Re: Player ratings and their importance.

i think it has very little to do with actual real life shot accuracy

it probably has more to do with simulation statistics

forwards in general score a LOT more than defenseman, so to reflect that, they get a higher accuracy rating
