ps3 dvd "jump start"

recently my ps3 has been really temperamental when it comes to loading blu rays, it seems that i first have to pop a regular dvd in then take it out & put the blu ray back in (possibly more than once) for the console to correctly load a game etc, read various things on this topic & people generally say that the laser is worn out..but if that is the case surely it wouldnt load anything? anyone get this problem & rectify it by doing this?

What model PS3 do you have? Some of the models have a separate laser for DVD's and another for Blu-Rays, while some models have just one laser for both DVD's and Blu-Rays.

The KES-400A lasers are the single and the KES-410ACA are the double.

Re: ps3 dvd "jump start"

That reminds me of back in the day when my PS2 games that had blue bottoms (All Star Baseball 2002, High Heat Baseball 2004) eventually would have disc read errors unless I popped in another regular PS2 game in first and let it read. Not sure what causes that, but this issue does sound unique in a similar fashion (though obviously different).

I had my laser go out on my 40 gig about 2 years ago. Bought a new laser mech off ebay for $70 and installed it myself. Actually a pretty easy task as there is a very good tutorial on youtube on how to do it. Just in case that does happen to you:
