Confused; Which Amateur did Roach train who quit...

I need some help here.
I thought I had read an article about 8 months to a year ago, that spoke about Roach training some highly regarded amateur stand-out.
But when he got him, the guy was vastly out of shape and was getting roughed up by a 15-year-old amateur.
I thought it was Guillermo Rigondeaux, but considering how Roach talks about him being the most talented guy he's ever worked with, I'm now doubting my memory.

Does anyone remember or know what I'm talking about? Am I losing my mind??

It was Rigondeaux mate, I don't even know if that stuff was true. Was there footage of it? I don't really remember but to me it just seemed like sour grapes from Roach.

More recently Roach said that Rigondeaux was the best technician he's ever seen and when he tries to get in shots on Rigondeaux during pad holding to catch his mistakes, Rigondeaux always manages to defend it.

He also says that Rigo is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world today.

I agree.

It was just weird hearing him talk about how awesome Rigo is when I was sure he had been less than flattering about him only a few months ago.

In any case, I really want Donaire to fight him.

For sure, At this point it seems Donaire doesn't want the fight which I find strange because as much as I like Rigondeaux, Donaire is the more proven pro.

In terms of the actual fight though I think Rigondeaux would win. He's a stylistic nightmare for Donaire.

Rigondeaux is a master technician, he doesn't make many mistakes. Donaire on the other hand although he's an excellent fighter in his own right makes a lot of mistakes. As horrible as the Omar Narvaez fight was it showed that Donaire can be shut down on offense against a good, patient boxer. In his most recent fight against another awkward boxer in Mathebula he was pretty marked up by the end of it, although he did clearly win the fight he showed that he is there to be hit.

Rigo has the perfect style with which to do that, he's a fantastic counter puncher and would punish Donaire for those mistakes. AND unlike a lot of previous Donaire opponents Rigo has the power to potentially hurt Donaire.

I'm not saying he would defintely win because lets face it, Donaire is miles better than anyone Rigo has faced so far but I defintely think he would or at the very least could.
