3 Observations: A look at things from my point of view on May 22, 2010

This will be my new periodic blog to go along with Stumbling, that will be back on OS after I get my laptop back. Today however introduces my new blog, 3 Observations. In this blog I will discuss 3 things I observed over the day and point them out with my usual snarky commentary.

1. Why is it that Hispanic people shop in such large groups? I observed this today at the Holyoke Mall and well it has something that I have observed in the past in 7 years living in Massachusetts. I don't mean for this to come off as racist as it is an observation of a societal norm. If you take this as racist, then you really need to learn what the word means and get over yourself. Anyway I must say that this is annoying for a couple of reasons. First, it is almost always walking abroad, meaning it causes walking traffic problems in the mall. That part is just rude in my opinion. Sure it is fine to shop in large groups, but don't be a jerk about it. And second, in this area of any subset of ethnic groups, the Hispanic people are easily the rudest, particularly girls aged between 14 and 30.

2. People have no sense of spacial awareness. Okay I am not sure people get what I mean by spacial awareness, so lets spell it out, I mean having an awareness of who or what is around you when out in public. This means having an idea of where people are in relation to you and whom they may be walking with. This is one thing my Grandmother and Mother (in that order) always drilled into me from a very young age. As such in following the golden rule, I expect that you want me to have an idea of where you are around me, so extend me the same courtesy. It is beyond rude to cut between two people walking together, especially if you just stop in their path. As I said when I am out I try to always maintain a sense of what is around me and I expect you to do the same. Punishment for not doing this should just be getting knocked on your butt by the person walking, because well you had it coming.

3. People from Quebec have no business operating cars in the US and I am not so sure they should outside of their province in Canada either. Growing up in Vermont I observed their driving a lot and have felt this way for a long, long time. Partially because of realities of their driving and lack of etiquette. For starters believing they can keep a consistent speed is laughable, despite cruise control (which they probably think drives the car for them and because they always know best they can't have that), meaning as a motorist behind one it gets very annoying. Next they drive in a way consistent with believing the laws of the roads do not apply to them, which is partially true. Since there is no database watching tickets, they just don't pay them and still get to enter the country. Which of course leads to awful behavior. In a perfect world there would be a road for just drivers from Quebec and Connecticut motorists so they could annoy the hell out of each other or only kill one another on the road.
