OT: Baseball Interleague Play starts this week!

I am looking forward to watching some of these games.

Unfortunatly, my Reds have to take on the Yankees at their new, "Bank on a homerun Ballpark".

Other interesting series to me are,

Texas at Atlanta
Cleveland at Colorado
Minnesota at San Fransico
Tampa Bay at Cubs

This weekend:

Cubs play the Yankees
Oakland plays Philadelphia

I love interleague play, it just adds a special touch to the game for me.

I LOVE BASEBALL!!

Anybody else excited about interleague play this week?

Anybody going to any games? Which ones?

I'm interested to see whether the AL West race is "decided" by interleague play this year. Many felt it was last year, and this year, the differentiation between the NL teams played by the A's and Mariners couldn't be more starkly different. If the Mariners gain some 4-6 game on the A's by virtue of their NL opposition, there could be an interesting tempest over this.

I'm going to Miller Park this Friday to see the Brewers vs. Red Sox. Hopefully I get to see a good game. The Brewers have actually looked like a team lately and as long as Glendon Rusch isn't on the hill they have a chance to win.

Tuesday in Pittsburgh they are celebrating the 100th anniversay of the First World Series against Boston with some nice turn back the clock element including introducing the starting lineups with a bull horn.

Quick trivia question. What was the final series score in the first world series and who won.

Red Sox beat Pittsburgh 5 games to 3 in a best of 9.

The next year the Giants backed out of playing the Red Sox for the championship, marking one of just two times that baseballs World Series was cancelled.

Edit -

I hate interleague play, only positive I see to it is that the AL pitchers actually have to play baseball and hit, while the DH's take their rightful seat on the bench.

Cardinals - Bluejays

Should be interesting considering how good the Bluejays are playing this year.

Scott is right. I didn't think the question was that hard, but yes the first World Series was a best of 9 and the Pirates went up 3-1.

I'm going to see Detroit vs. Colorado while on vacation. Thanks to everyone for their input in my thread about it. I think we're sitting on the 1st base line a couple of sections down the line from the dugout, about 5th row. I decided to get something close to the action.

I'm not a big fan of interleague play, either, especially the fact that now with "designated interleague rivals", teams in the same division don't play all the same opponents.

Just think, youngsters like this will be able, 40 years from now, to look back on interleague play with nostalgia and talk about the good 'ol days.

I consider myself a baseball purist and don't like many things changed, but I do like the notion of interleague play.

I love going down to beautiful camden yards to watch my phillies play in a real stadium, and dream of whats to come next year when they're in a real ball park.

Should be interesting to see how the Phillies do against two tough teams: Seattle and Oakland. With them coming off a 3 game sweep off the Expos, it should be a good measuring stick for them in this critical part of the season for them.

They talked about this on the Bob & Tom radio show this morning. They were wondering if Pitt was charging 1903 prices, and if the black players were allowed to play.

Anyone know if Clemens will actually have to bat in interleague this year or if he is hiding again?

Actually thats pretty funny. The next chance for 300 will be in Wrigley Field this upcoming weekend against the Cubs.

What makes it interesting to see is if he faces Shawn Estes again who is with the Cubs this year. Many people feel that Shawn Estes pretty much "Avoided" the confrontation last year because he threw behind clemens and didn't hit him. The thing was Estes had no real beef with Clemens because he was with S.F. when all that stuff with Piazza happened.

With free agency running so rampant, you don't see alot of "Comradery" among teamates.

Well, I am usually against interleauge play, but the one matchup this year makes me happy. Altlanta-Texas, it will be awesome to see my braves pitching staff face A-rod and Everett and the rest.

Haha I've never heard my fine town to be called that. It is quite fitting though, believe me. And yes, I consider it to be in the area, especially with the 4-lane 12 on its way.

I thought it was fun for a year or two, but I have pretty much seen enough of interleague play.

I wish they rotated over a 3 year period so you got to play every team from the other league, and then ended the interleague play after that. They could bring it back every other decade or something, for a 3 year stretch, but other than that, I wish they would do away with it.

Hey my Reds beat the Yankees 4-3!!!

Wow!!!

and the Braves beat the Rangers 6-5!

Day 2 of Interleague play begins tonight.

Who would have thought that interleague play would bring us the Sammy Sosa corked bat?
