Packing your suit when flying

As the title states. I'm going to be flying out for a job interview in a couple days and I hope to keep my suit in as good condition as possible. Any advice?

There's a simple youtube video you should be able to find. It involves flipping the jacket inside out, popping one shoulder into the other, and then rolling.

Ideas that have worked for me:

-Wear your jacket on the plane and hang it in the coat closet. If you are pretty nice to the flight attendants, they will usually do this for you even if you aren't in business/first class.

-Pay the fee at your hotel or a dry cleaner to do a quick steam. Usually less than $20 bucks and worth it.

-Fold on the top layer of a travel suitcase so that no other items are pressing down and wrinkling it.

You can also hang it in the bathroom when you take a shower to steam it. That's what I usually do and it works pretty well.

Good luck on the interview.

This works well. Downy also sells a wrinkle release spray in tiny sizes that are perfect for trips.

Also little known fact but most hotels have an iron you can borrow at the front desk.

It works on wool jackets, not sure about any poly blend. Don't forget a lint roller if you have any dogs or cats.

I wonder if Santa has this problem. Does he fly in his undies?

I just watched The Incredibles last night, and was picturing a Superman type situation. Welp.

I read this as pooping on the shoulder. I might have baby brain

As far as helpful advice, I agree with Digamma. Pay at the hotel for them to do a quick steam. Does better than anything else I've ever tried and completely worth it for a job I want.

The company booked me (and they're paying for it) a room at a Holiday Inn, so do they generally provide that service?

Some Holiday Inn's do. I'd call the hotel they booked you in and ask.

I'd say most of the Holiday Inn's I've stayed at had irons in the room. The rest have them at the front desk. I'd call in advance but I'd be surprised if they didn't have some options.

Just got an email from the company saying I should dress business casual, which means I have some shopping to do.

I prefer the giant fold method where I put my jackets at the bottom of my suitcase, then shirts and tshirts above. Then I do a kind of giant fold, with the jackets on the outside. Normally I won't get any wrinkles in my jackets and maybe a couple with the shirts and pants that come out pretty easy.

You can wear exactly what you were planning to, just leave the jacket and tie at home.

Fold it up neatly in thirds. When you get to the hotel hang you suit up in the bathroom and run the shower (HOT!) for about 15 mins to let the room steam up (with the door closed). Make sure you don't have the suit against something that will have water condensation on it.

There will be no need to iron it at this point since it will wrinkle more after you put it on.

That one didn't work good for me.

Any hotel worth the money should have an iron and board in the room that you don't need to call down and borrow...

It depends. It can be a fire code issue in some places.

It probably can, but I can tell you from my 2 years of work travel (50 trips) I never stayed at a hotel (20 states) where that was the case.

My experience is largely the same, but I've had two recent trips where the fire code has prevented it. Possibly randomness.

They should make cases for suits.

Business casual sometimes implies jacket (but definitely no tie).

I suggest wear a jacket if not sure and then take it off/lose it quickly if not appropriate.

My Dad used to have one, problem was they were way too long and was meant to be folded in half anyways so it never really helped that much.

Random internet message board unsolicited advice.
Wear something you are comfortable in. If you cant relax and be natural in an interview you have a foot in the hole from the start

Well I'm back from my trip. I thought the interview went rather well and I'll should hear by Monday if I got the job.

BTW I did the shower steam treatment and it worked pretty well.
