My aunt just messaged to tell me to make sure I boarded my windows and brought everything in from the deck. I'm in the Panhandle.

Watched the weather this morning and looking like Harvey is strengthening and could stick around a while causing a lot of flooding along Texas/LA coast. Hope all of you here in the affected areas are moving someplace safe, and not too much damage to your house/yard.

There was an earthquake at my hotel this morning in Irving. And I'm driving home to get the edge of a hurricane tonight.

I'm officially in a tropical storm warning area. And I'm 170 miles from the coast.

Famous last words? Buildings were collapsing around him and he was out of his car when we lost the signal.

And he's back

I saw on the news that this is going to just hang around. Not much movement.
Houston looking at 21 inches of rain.
Localized rain of up to 30 inches in locations.

That is crazy.

This looks straight terrifying. It's one thing to deal with a bad thunderstorm, it's another when storms last hours and hours. No thank you.

San Antonio looks to have the same forecasts as the ones I'm getting. It is only about 60 miles south of me.

They're saying this thing might drop a years worth of rain in 4 days. Goodness. up to 40 inches in spots. Heavy flooding seems inevitable.

Looks like the storm is slowly creeping in-land. The more it does that, the less likely it will be that it heads back into the gulf.

To put this in perspective, 1 inch of rain equates to approximately 12-18 inches of snow.

So that's like 30 to 45 FEET of snow worth of precipitation.

So what do Texans think about FEMA camps nowadays?

There are some dams in the area that have been in pretty shaky condition. I hope they are away from the heavy rainfall because the last thing we need is a breach

Well I guess Myrtle Beach was jealous of all the attention Texas was getting. A Tropical storm is forming off the coast, and now we are expecting 2-3 inches of rain today. Lovely.

First place I saw this was a Trump tweet-finally a good use on twitter.

And in a sad sign of the times-Houston officals had to put out a notice that no one's immigration status would be checked if they came to the shelter.

let's just hope it goes out to sea rather than the Gulf or east coast

According to WxRisk, the course it's on right now has a higher probability for FL and the east coast.

So have we had an official update from everyone on here that was in the Tx-LA area effected by the hurricane/floods? Are you, your family, pets, home okay now? Anything we can do for you?

I live in Katy, a western burb of Houston, where we got about 33 inches of rain. We felt the full wrath of Harvey, but my neighborhood is located in a good spot away from the bayous and at relative elevation, and we were fortunate enough not to suffer any damage. Most of my colleagues and friends escaped relatively unscathed, some lost cars or had minimal water damage, and some lost everything.

The southeast part of the city got up to 44 inches of rain, while many of the neighborhoods on the west side may be flooded for another couple of weeks while the reservoir levels stabilize. The city as a whole has handled the aftermath tremendously - shelters are overflowing with volunteers and donations, both for victims and first responders. The outpouring of support from outside of the city has also been superb and appreciated.

All we really know as of right now is that recovery is going to take a very long time. Things may be even worse to the east of Houston, where the city of Beaumont still has heavy flood waters that knocked out their freshwater supply.

Thanks Hammer for the update-looks like you were very fortunate indeed. Glad you are ok. Beaumont will probably be the worst hit spot in the end.

Watching Irma closely. Maybe Harvey steers Irma away. Or it may be too soon.

I have a sister who lives in Ft. Lauderdale area and my Dad lives in Ocala (central FLA)
