Question Anybody work in the hotel industry?

I'll be starting vacation at the end of the week and I've got a question about hotels. I generally don't like having someone come in everyday to clean my room up but now I wonder if that impacts how much the housekeeping staff gets paid. Does anybody know if they are on a fixed salary or if they get paid by the room. It's never been one of those things that I've thought about but figured I should.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't THINK so. But make sure you tip them each day.

Housekeeping staff gets paid hourly, something close to minimum wage for budget hotels, probably something a bit nicer for nicer places. How many rooms they clean has no bearing on their hourly wage. They do appreciate tips, hell the housekeepers at my hotel go so far as to leave envelopes in the rooms, which I personally think is gonna hurt their chances of getting tips more than help. If you don't want your room cleaned and want to make absolutely sure it isn't, best thing to do is let front desk know or speak to one of the housekeepers if you get the chance.. Alternatively, a do not disturb sign on your door should also do the trick. They don't mind that one bit, I promise.

When I travel for work, that Do Not Disturb/Privacy sign goes on the door handle before I even bring my bag into the room. I just like to put my stuff where I want it and not have it moved around. If I need more towels or something a couple days later, I'll call up housekeeping and then tip them.
