wiping data from a device that won't turn on
So I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro that won't turn on. I was going to have it repaired (broken micro-USB port), but I found a better deal on another windows tablet.
However, the Dell won't cut on or charge, so I can't think of a way to wipe the data off of there before recycling it. Its PIN protected, should someone put in the effort to get it working. The only things on there I can think of are an encrypted password file and still being logged into my throwaway gmail account in chrome. No financial or other info is saved in there. There is an FM save, but I guess we'll just never know how that career turned out. I guess I can just sock it away in a drawer with the hundreds of other tech toys I haven't gotten rid of yet, but just thought I'd ask if anyone can think of a way to format the eMMC memory chip that's in there. If it were an SSD or micro-SD, it would be obvious, but not sure what to do with those memory chips. |

You can remove the eMMC chip yourself and destroy it how you see fit. Should just require a heat gun (maybe hair dryer) to get the solder hot enough to scrape it off the motherboard.

Would think that there has to be a way to revoke that sign in from your google account.

Looked up a repair video on YouTube and it looks fairly easy to remove the logic board. Once you do that, just identify the memory chip, drill a hole or two in it, and then slap everything back together and throw it in the recycling. Also may even be able to be fixed fairly easily with a 6$ soldering gun if it's just a bad connection at the port
