Growing up, we always drank RC, and I thought nothing of it until the day I brought a can on a school field trip and one of the girls in my class came by and said, "I didn't know you were poor." This bothered me until I went home and my mother explained that it wasn't that we were poor; it was that the household went through so much soda that the 25 cent difference in each 2 liter bottle between RC and Coke wound up being significant. How much soda? Enough that almost every visit to the grocery store my mom got comments like "So, having a big party this weekend, eh?" based on the amount of drinks we bought. So Amber, let me just say, thirty years along, that no, we weren't poor; we were fat.

And just a couple hours ago I noticed that, for the moment at least, RC (and similar tier) and Coke & Pepsi are all now the same price at Kroger.
edit: Hint: that ain't due to a price drop by either of the big two
