AUBURN HILLS -- Just hours after one of the franchise's biggest victories, the Detroit Pistons were back on the practice court Saturday, defying the skeptics again.

With barely any time to celebrate -- or even sleep -- following Friday night's series-clinching overtime victory at Philadelphia, the Pistons had no trouble getting motivated for the New Jersey Nets. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals is today.

''There were some things that were said that kind of made it personal,'' guard Chucky Atkins said. ''There were some comments made about us from Richard Jefferson, something about us being overrated. Nobody has given us a chance all year.''

I'm not assuming anything. Hey, if I lived in Michigan I'd be excited about the Pistons too.

As a long time Celtic fan that lived through the "Bad Boys" era, Detroit was not a team I rooted for. Remember, Bill Laimbeer never committed a foul in his entire NBA career

The Pistons haven't won squat. They were 48 minutes away from getting bounced by the number 8 seed in the playoffs.

Tell you what, I'll give the Pistons their due respect if they beat Jersey. IMHO, Jersey is the best team they have played so far in the playoffs. I didn't think Jersey was worth anything last year and their beating of Boston and run this year back to the conference finals has proven me wrong. They are a very good team.

What I don't like is the whining of some fans who sound like Raider fans. We don't get no respect. For what? What have you won?

I am a Pistons fan and didnt give Boston any respect last year when they were in the Conference Finals so I cant complain about lack of respect towards Detroit.

If the Pistons make the NBA Finals and there is a lack of respect, I will be clamoring, but until then I cant say anything.

I agree with you boss. Boston was/is a very frustrating team to have a lot of respect for. They live and die by the three. I have a world of respect for Paul Pierce, that's about it.

If Detroit wins, they will be worthy of the respect that goes with winning the conference. With the West wide open, they will have a good shot of winning it all.

Having said that, I have nothing against the Mavericks. Well, except that their fans are probably also Cowboys fans. With that piece of information, I say: SWEEP THE MAVS!

Oh I can't say I hate the Pistons, I'd just like to see them lose, for obvious reasons pertaining to this thread.

Nah, actually I have a lot of respect for the team and the style they play. I can't say as I like many of their players though, I do like Big Ben, I can't stand Billups because he was a CU guy, and I can barely name 2 other guys from their team.

I honestly don't know if they'll be NJ, and I find it very hard to believe they'd win in the Finals if they did, but we shall see.

As for the Pistons/Nets games, both teams tried their best to play worse than each other, a contest the Pistons squeaked out in the end

I think overall the game was pretty even, and we are probably shaping up for a relatively long season. That said, if the Pistons can't win Game 2, this could be over in four games. Massive game coming up on Tuesday, and I'm glad I'm going to be there
