Vladimir Klitschko v. Tyson Fury

Not sure if this is even on the radar over the pond, but looking forward to this fight tonight. Although Fury has wound up a lot of people, tbh I've grown to quite like him through the build-up, and he's started to make me wonder if he can actually pull this off?

Worry is that he has been knocked down a couple of times already, and he will likely not get the chance to recover if he takes a shot, but his size and power are on a par with Klitschko's for a change, and he does have a good jab (not as good as Vlad's, but decent enough)

Intriguing fight, not sure it will exciting, but intriguing nonetheless.

Not receiving nearly as much hype as the cotto fight... I will be watching. Hoping for a tactical battle and not a clinchfest.

Version A: Klitschko has rigged the gloves, ring and tried to wrap his hands without the oppositon being there
Version B: the Fury camp are looking for excuses...

Not sure where the truth lies tbh, but the fight goes on. Fury has me sold, I'm at least convinced he can give Klitschko a fight. Time will tell.

4 rounds in, Fury probably winning, but likely needs to do more to win the belts,

Through 8 rounds, fight seems more even, Fury needs to do more to win the belt

It's always dificult to ignore the bias of the home announcers, but don't think there's enough for Fury to win the belts. Great showing though, regardless.

Even with rose tinted, think Klitschko wins on points. Great showing by Fury though. Surprised me with his resilience.

FWIW, I'm following the Reddit comments and just about everyone there sees Fury winning easily. It'll at least be a big controversy there if he loses by decision.

Edit: But, by the comments it's also bee a slow, boring as fuck fight. With that type of fight, decisions can go any direction, really.

To be the man, and all that. Without doubt it's Klistschko's toughest night in 10 years

Yeah, that's what I meant with my edit. As a challenger, it's really hard to win a decision in a boring, eventless fight (from my watching experience, anyway) and they usually default to the champ.

But, Fury wins by UD so nevermind.

Quite a career for Wlad, even though the division has been weak. I remember everyone thinking he was done after the Brewster fight in 2004, but he didn't lose another fight until tonight, 11 years and change undefeated. He was bound to run out of gas at some point, and seeing that he's about to turn 40, he'll probably retire now.

Also, Tyson Fury!? That can't possible be his real name! *looks up on boxrec, birth name: Tyson Luke Fury*

I thought Tyson Fury won it by a mile. It reminded me why I dont watch much boxing anymore though, pretty terrible fight. And Fury's singing was even worse.

So happy fur Fury... Klitschko didnt seem to realize that he needed to punch the guy until the 12th round. Fury deserved it!!

Both the cotto fight and the muira fight last week were great technical (brutal maybe) fights. The heavyweight division isnt as action packed as it used to be. Except for Donte anyways... That guy is a beast almost like Tyson in his heyday.

Always happy when the underdog goes into somebody else's barn, and pulls the upset for the ages. However, this fight also shed a light on why I rarely watch boxing anymore. Boring boring boring, and the chatter throughout the fight by the commentators kept making it closer than it actually was.

The Premier Boxing Champions series has put on some really good fights, but the only HW they put on is Wilder. The focus on the exciting guys in the lower weight classes like Dennis Thurman and have been solid about every card. I am actually more into boxing due to this series than I have been since the late 80's

I see a headline that says
"Tyson Fury makes sexist remarks"

and all I could think of was

Bobbi Flekman: You put a *greased naked woman* on all fours with a dog collar around her neck, and a leash, and a man's arm extended out up to here, holding onto the leash, and pushing a black glove in her face to sniff it. You don't find that offensive? You don't find that sexist?

Ian Faith: This is *1982*, Bobbi, c'mon!

Bobbi Flekman: That's *right*, it's 1982! Get out of the '60s. We don't have this mentality anymore.

Ian Faith: Well, you should have seen the cover they *wanted* to do! It wasn't a glove, believe me.

That and "But this one goes to 11" are my two favorite scenes in that movie.

Yeah, the delivery on "it wasn't a glove, believe me" was just perfectly done.

Tyson Fury stripped of IBF belt for declining Vyacheslav Glazkov bout

Something I've never quite understood - why does MMA have organizations with exclusive pools of fighters and company championships, where Boxing has these weird governing bodies that apparently govern everybody but which nobody seems to respect, and whose championships are secondary after-thoughts?

Oh gosh, it's a long story, but it all boils down to money. Boxing is sort of like the WWE if there had never been DOTT. But where the territories all intermingled, but nothing was ever consolidated. Where as the UFC basically created a business model, and became the main organization, manager, and promoter for the fighters.

Boxing needs to consolidate and get rid of the Don King's of the sport and clean up it's act. MMA fighters are contracted to the organization and the organization gets to set the fights. Boxers are signed to managers, who work with promoters and sanctioning bodies to put fights together. There is no main organization to run it all. Then the managers and promoters take all the money and the fighters just get beat up.

Just to follow up, Tyson Fury is bananananananas.

Tonight was the match between Deontay Wilder v Artur Szpilka for the WBC version of the championship. And the post match fireworks were funny. We needed the " Anonymous Showtime Boxing General Manager" to come out and book these guys in a match, because before Fury got kicked out of the arena.. this happened

(From the Guardian Liveblog)

Tyson Fury is in the ring. And he’s trying to wrest the mic from ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. He ultimately succeeds, but Showtime has powered it off.

Amazing fireworks between Fury and Wilder in the ring after the fight. “Anytime, anyplace, anywhere,” Fury cries while getting within inches of Wilder’s face. Responds Wilder: “You can run around like a preacher, but I will baptize you!” It looks like this is a fight that could actually happen.

(Fury departed with a screw you gesture to the crowd.. then)

“We all know Fury is just a phony,” Wilder said. “This is just an act. I’m not scared of anybody. We’ll come to your backyard. This is just an act – you’re not a real fighter. I don’t play. This isn’t wrestling. This isn’t the WWE. When you do step in that ring with me I promise you I will baptize you.“I would love to fight him next, unfortunately. I have other mandatories due. Make the date Tyson, I promise you.”

video of the confrontation:

SHOWTIME SPORTS on Twitter: ".@BronzeBomber and @Tyson_Fury exchange words following Wilder's explosive KO in his title defense. #WilderSzpilka https://t.co/FwKrmOJ1zq"

I think he's a breath of fresh air in the division tbh, he's made it interesting again.

At the top we've got Fury, Wilder and Klitschko, and Wilder has to fight another one of the Russians whose name is familiar (but can't quite place it just now)

Then David Haye made a comeback last night knocking out the #10 ranked Australian de Mori in 2 minutes (nope, never heard of him either!), Anthony Joshua looks a beast so all of a sudden there are five guys with an established or growing reuptation.

Fury understands the publicity side of the game, and that getting the public to either love/hate you is the key to the box office

I honestly think that this explains a lot. (It's Cocaine.)

Tyson Fury fails drug test after positive result for benzoylecgonine

Now he's looking at losing his belts and a shitload of money in the process.
