Mount Rushmore - Your NFL Team!

So, what's the obvious Top Four players of your favorite NFL team?

For me my team is the Jaguars, so I have fewer choices to debate and consider:

Tony Boselli
Fred Taylor
Maurice Jones-Drew
Jimmy Smith

With Mark Brunell and Keenan McCardell in 5 and 6.

Although Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas might get the nod given that they're more recent.

Personally I think no Maimi Mount Rushmore would be complete without OJ McDuffie, but I doubt that's a widely-held opinion.

Some others could ben chosen I guess but Collinsworth was a very good player and his announcing career adds to it. If we're going strictly on playing, I would end up choosing someone else -- maybe AJ Green in a couple years. The other three, to me, are no-brainers though.

Really a coin toss for me between Taylor and Thomas, and could go either way. I think Griese is one of the most overrated QBs in the history of the game.

I read the OP as asking for the obvious or public perception. I agree with you about Griese, but he's highly revered so would probably win a public vote.

I concur. Easy list for now. It'll be interesting to see who gets added from the Super Bowl team and who gets dropped 5-10 years from now.

I really hope 2-3 guys from the current team make it into that discussion down the road as it'd mean they've had some very remarkable careers. Looking at the list, I'm not even sure who'd I'd vote for for first one off if/when that time comes. Only one I'd consider "safe" over the other 3 would be Jones.

The first three are easy choices, all guys who are in the conversation for best all-time at their positions. The fourth could be debated, but I chose the face of the team from the only era when the Lions dominated the league. He was known as a clutch player, and was a rather prolific passer by the standards of the 1950s NFL.

If this were an actual monument, though, I would keep Layne off of it because many Lions fans mostly associate him with his famous (although now expired) 50-year curse.

I think Largent is pretty untouchable on that list, too. When he retired, he had the NFL records for receptions, yards and TDs catching balls from Jim Zorn and Dave Krieg. Now, I love Mudbone as much as the next Seahawks fan, but Joe Montana he ain't.

Could easily flip between Emmitt and Troy for 4th place. Charles Haley would have had a stronger case if he had played more of his career with the Cowboys.

True and how do you take off Tez given he's been one of the few DPoY on a losing team? So Easley would be first off? Yeah, it's going to take some doing for any of the current group of guys to get on there, though if I had to bet, it'd likely be a safety for safety swap if Easley does get replaced down the road.

I'd have those guys highly ranked but I would go with the more modern middles over Butkus. I think they contributed slightly more and were slightly better than their peers at the time. Then for the last slot I picked Hampton over Dent, but I could have gone either way.

Buoniconti played half his career with another team. Zach made all-pro for almost as many seasons as Buoniconti even had with the team and it's hardly his fault they didn't win a Superbowl.

Beyond Steve Smith, I'd have to put Sam Mills on that list. I know he only played for Carolina for 3 years (of course, the franchise has only been around for 19) but he *was* the face of the franchise while playing and even after playing. He also is the only Carolina player to have his number retired.

That reads like one of those "which one of these don't belong" questions.

(hint: look up John Henry Johnson, Dermontti Dawson for other offensive guys)

Gifford didn't really play all that much due to injuries. Huff was more a product of that one famous TV show. Trading him to the Foreskins for table scraps was actually a good move, he was past his prime.

I'd go with the first two and add Andy Robustelli and Emlen Tunnell from the old timers. Or Rosey Grier.

No disagreement on Gifford (wasn't as great as his following) but thats the most likely public 4 in my view, not my own Mt Rushmore of Giants. Might even argue Grier is more associated with the Rams today even though he was a Giant longer.

Not happy about #4 but Blanda played for several teams, Ernest Givins never lead the team in WR yards in a year despite being the all-time leader. McNair only played 16 games for us 3 time.
