In the ACC, Georgia Tech also plays at Virginia Tech. Between GT, Clemson, VPI and FSU, they have taken up 14 of the 18 slots in the ACC championship games. So history makes this an important weekend even if the eye tests so far this season do not.

Not sure of forecast in mid-Missouri, but 80% chance of rain here on Saturday. Would make it a bit more interesting with a good storm during the game.

Seems odd for the Big Ten to complain about how hard it is to schedule in conference games now and then have 4 OOC games to start the season. Here's the only Big Ten games with a pulse.

Miami(U) @ Nebraska
Utah @ Michigan
Iowa @ Pitt

Also of note, 'Bama welcomes Florida to the beginning of one nasty stretch run in their schedule.

Yep, that is all too familiar. Davis is a very underrated QB coach, and a very overrated play caller.

Its interesting you say he is an underrated QB coach. The QBs he has coached at Iowa have all regressed under him. I dont think he knows how to coach QBs.

He did a great job with them at Texas. Here is the list from his time there:

Major Applewhite
Chris Simms
Vince Young
Colt McCoy

They all had great improvement between when they came to campus and left, and he was the QB coach as well as the OC.

Great front-page story from ESPN on Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah - Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah an uncommon talent - ESPN

Figured we could use a positive story about a potential NFL RB right about now.

Gonna cost him some money come draft time.

Michigan and Texas will do a home and home in 2024 and 2027.

I am having this very discussion with a coworker over work chat. He is going to cost himself a shot at 1.1. Given his history and the climate of the NFL teams are going to be reluctant to make him the face of the franchise.

Unless the Cowboys pick 1.1

Pretty much my take. At this point I really don't know if he's a "bad guy" so much as maybe he's just not all there.

I think he is a Grade A narcissist the likes of which we just don't see too often.

Most college football players already think they are God's gift to the world... but I think he really takes it to a much higher level than normal.

On a related note, who is FSU's backup QB?

Here ya go, from the Miami Herald

Quote:
Sean Maguire, a third-year sophomore from New Jersey, will start at quarterback for FSU against Clemson.

Maguire entered spring camp in 2013 as a fourth-stringer. But Winston’s overwhelming success led fellow challengers Clint Trickett and Jacob Coker to transfer and allowed Maguire to ascend to No. 2 on the depth chart.

Maguire has 144 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his brief career. He completed three of five passes for 28 yards in relief duty during FSU’s win against The Citadel on Sept. 6.

So, what you're saying is that they'll be running the ball a whole hell of a lot in the first half against Clemson.

He could end up being a great player, and I never saw him personally...but I remember that in the NJ high school football circles there being a lot of surprise when he got a commitable offer to FSU.

Based on that, at least coaches in Iowa know you're allowed to put more than one receiver on the field at a time. Minnesota's 3rd and 5 gameplan calls for running the Maryland I.

His situation brings up in interesting plot to a team who wants in the playoff but would be out of it in part due to a player's suspension. Would the group picking teams forgive a loss due to somebody like Winston sitting?

I think Ms. Ponder summed it up nicely: he thinks he's above the law/rules since he reached the pinnacle of college football success and feel he's untouchable. Problem is, even he doesn't play another down (assuming he's not in jail), he'll get his millions in the draft.

As I said before, and we have teams in the Power 5 talking about how hard it is to schedule against teams in the conference. No it isn't. Stop scheduling four OOC games with at least three of them being cakewalks.

Yeah, not a lot of big games. Hard to blame that group though. Michigan St went to Oregon. Wisconsin played LSU. Georgia has already played Clemson and South Carolina.

It's really a poor slate overall the last two weekends.

Iowa put CJ Beathard in at QB early in the 2nd half. We were down 17-7. In the 3 series Beathard has been in and Iowa now leads 24-20.
This guy should have been playing all season. He has a better arm and is more athletic then our starter.

7 minutes left in the game

Iowa wins. That was a nice bounce back. I hope Iowa stays with Beathard. He was a stud today.

The Badgers about to surpass 600 yards rushing.... 250 of those yards from former Heisman Hopeful, Melvin Gordon. He put on some nice runs today along with Clement. Those two are a pretty nice RB Duo, I'd put 'em up with anybody in the country.

The QB problem is still there, however. Tanner McEvoy still can't hit a medium or deep ball to save his life. His short stuff isn't even average. He lays the receivers out to dry and can't hit wide open dump passes on the run. Thankfully with the Badgers schedule so terrible, they may by default be in the Big Ten Championship game against MSU; which would actually make for an interesting game from a national perspective if both teams do win out to that game.

Now just need RU to hold off a ground and pound Navy.

Georgia and SC are in the same conference division. Them playing each other is not a matter of choice. Agreed about Clemson, though.

And I should note, all of those opponents, at least, are FBS opponents.

That's a fire-the-coach kinda loss right there (hypothetically speaking)
