IWS 221 Results

Let's get right to the results!

1. Stupid was looking back on all the memories he's shared with his dad in anticipation of Father's Day. When he reminisces over his childhood, Stupid doesn't have much to complain about. In fact, when asked about his upbringing, which beloved TV dad does Stupid compare his own father to?

Bill Cosby - 4
Ward Cleaver - 3
Archie Bunker - 1
Tim Taylor - 1
Homer Simpson - 1
Jack Arnold - 1
Mike Brady - 1
Al Bundy - 1
Carl Winslow - 1

Interesting spread. Thought the top two would account for more of the total.

2. Stupid's mom did most of the cooking growing up, but like many dads, Stupid, Sr. fancied himself quite the master of the grill. What was his go-to recipe there?

Steaks - 7
Burgers -7

I honestly don't know what to say here. Had no idea the burger/steak rivalry cut so deep here at FOFC.

3. Stupid will never forget the time his dad tried to give him "the talk." It was incredibly awkward, but he knows Stupid Sr. meant well. How old was Stupid when that happened?

13 -5
10 - 3
12 - 3
14 - 1
15 - 1
16 - 1

A nice little skirmish between the desire for round numbers and the possibility that explaining the birds and the bees to a 10-year-old will fall on deaf ears.

4. Stupid's dad has never been too big into showing emotion, so the one time Stupid saw him cry was hard to forget. What was the occasion?

his father's death/funeral - 7
his mother's death/funeral - 3
other/non-specified death/funeral - 3
child's wedding - 1

Yep, since I already had to throw question 2 out thanks to the perfect 50/50 split in responses, I wasn't gonna lump all the responses but one into 'funeral.' Anyhow, I really thought there'd be some more tears of joy responses - I've seen plenty of emotional dads at their daughter's wedding.

5. One thing Stupid definitely learned from his dad was how to be handy around the house. Stupid might have spent the most father-son bonding time helping his dad with which home improvement project?

Building a deck - 4
Painting - 3
Remodeling a room - 2
Lawncare - 2
Adding cabinets - 1
Building a fence - 1
Bulding a treehouse - 1

The oddly specific building a deck wins out.

6. This Father's Day, Stupid really wants to go the extra mile to show his dad how much he cares. How much money is Stupid going to spend on his Father's Day gift?

$100 - 11
$50 - 2
$200 - 1

I wrote "14" for the talk instead of 13. And chose "wedding" instead of "death". Must be the positive in me.

Didn't really think about the age question being biased towards native English speakers, but 13 is the youngest age for a 'teenager.' Funny how easy it is to take small linguistic differences like that for granted.

Finally something worthwhile to put on my resume!

Give me a couple days to come up with a good topic.

That crossed my mind, too. Though counting in French, the "teens" start with 17. So I can't vouch for Alf there.

God dammit, I thought Treehouse was one of the most slam dunk ones I had.

Stupid really is stupid.

And here I thought stupid would pick Homer Simpson over Bill Cosby.

recent events played into my answer for the tears question, but I am kind of surprised it came in where it did too.

I have no idea why steaks and burgers were the only answers for the grilling question either. That's hilarious with ribs and pork chops being major options as well, IMO.

Can't believe that I didn't think Bill Cosby for #1.
