News Flash: Harry Reid says Americans are not educated on using the internet!!

Come one Harry. I will admit I cannot stand the guy and yes I am more conservative leaning but I would feel the same way whether this was a Republican or Independent.

Realistically? He's not wrong. You're talking to a self-selected sample of people here. Young people are going to be net-savvy. People our age are going to be more of a mixed bag. Older? I, uh...how many FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD emails do you get from members of your extended family? That's going to be about the extent of their internet savvy. Email, possibly Facebook. AOL, for values of "AOL is still a thing?"

That doesn't mean they're going to be up-to-speed enough for things like online bill pay, navigating the health insurance exchanges, etc.

You can LOLREID all you want, but he's not wrong. Especially in more rural parts of the country, there are an awful lot of people out there for whom the Internet is just this nebulous thing that's "kind of out there and is how I get pictures of my grandkids but beyond that I have no interest in using it or learning how to use it because it's scary"

Yes, let's focus on one particular sentence he says and completely the ignore the context of said quote.

Yeah I just watched it and it didn't really seem like he was saying something too outlandish or nutty.

You have to remember that people who seize on the quote and ignore the context are the same people who think Nancy Pelosi's "pass it to find out what's in it" quote meant literally NOBODY EVER HAS READ THIS AND WE REFUSE TO UNTIL WE PASS IT AND THEN WE'LL FIND OUT WHAT'S IN IT and not, y'know, "Republicans have been so relentless in incorrect messaging, like "death panels," that anything we say is going to be ignored; once the bill is law and stuff starts happening, that's when it will be apparent what's in it."

Really come on how stupid a phrase is that? If Boehner said the same thing people would, rightfully so, be blasting him. How about designing a site that works and is user friendly. I know we did not spend enough for the user friendly version. In the grand scheme not a big deal but just as bad as some of the goofy stuff Boehner says and gets blasted.

I don't disagree at all and that's why this stuff needs to stop on both sides of the aisle. What he said wasn't wrong, it was just unpolished. The other thing he conveniently left out was the fact the 63 year may have been doing it the right way and the website sucked.

That said, I don't want to act like it's his fault either. Even if he said it and it was in context, this is the type of thing we should be pissed off about right now? The way to fix this is for everyone to get pissed off at this crap no matter whose side you're on.

My dad doesn't even have a computer and he is only 57.. Also, back when I did some computer tech work for a friend of mine, the youngest customers we had were probably in their late 40's. This was back in the early 2000's so I would expect things to have changed some, but it'll be another 20-30 years before just about everyone knows what they're doing for the most part.

If this is about the healthcare.gov site, I found it almost foolproof. The only people that should have trouble with it are people who can't read or follow directions.

I just found it funny sorry guys. I really did not want to start a political discussion. And yes I also found Nancy saying we need to pass this to see whats in it to be a head scratcher. Of course I also laughed at Bush when he said. "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." (or whatever the actual quote was) That's some funny stuff.

There were a lot of people that did not have it that easy, even after a few weeks of trying. The website issues were well known and admitted to.

As far as navigation, I haven't used the site, so I have no flippin idea how hard/easy it is to use

I used it last month. I have no idea how bad it was on launch (from the sound of it, pretty fucking bad and I don't doubt it), but going through it about a month ago was a breeze.

I spent about 30 hours over the course of two and a half months between trying to get the site to work, live chat help, telephone support with the healthcare.gov folks, and calling BCBSNC directly to cry at them because my problems lasted so long that I was afraid I might not be able to get signed up (this was before deadline extensions all over the place).

I was persistent b/c I had a strong feeling from the start that I was going to benefit heavily from these plans, and I was unlucky. Every time something on the site got fixed, my account just happened to be stuck in some weird state where my application would get broken even more as the site was slowly improving for everyone else. To top it off, the way the site was set up, every time I tried to use it to see if it would work for me, I had to start the entire application process from the beginning to get back to the same point I was at before. Once I got to that point, it would recognize that I had already been there and would error, but it wouldn't ever tell me "you have a saved application, continue where you left off?"

The new plan I got will save me between $3500-$5000 this year depending on the services I use, so, worth it.
