One Day Dynasty: Sonny and the Sonics (NBA2K14)
One Day Dynasty is just quick way for me to do a story, come up with as scenario and see if it works. We'll see if I can stick to it, but...I thought of this one on my drive home this morning.
Sonny Brock is my new favorite fake player. He actually came from a FBPB dynasty that I ran entirely as a simulation. When I bought NBA 2K14 for the PC, I wanted to import someone and chose Sonny because I knew the game would be able to say his name. I've since created his son -- Junior Brock -- to also be in the game at the same time. Anyway, the Sonics are stacked because I put a bunch of my created players on the roster. I decided driving home that I'm breaking the team up because I'd be curious to see how Sonny plays with established NBA players, etc. MISSION: Break up the Sonics, moving all created players except Sonny Brock and one other player of "his" choice to stay in Seattle. Outfit the team with other NBA players with the idea of competing for an NBA title. We'll sim an entire season, see how the team does and then pick them up in the playoffs. I might play a game or three during the regular season to see how the team plays together, but ultimately the goal is to do the post-season and see if Sonny can lead a team to the NBA title without a team that most would have a hard time competing with.

INITIAL ROSTER
There will be videos embedded into this dynasty before long, but for right now, we're just gonna go old school. If you ever followed my college dynasty, some of these names are familiar. C Jonatarius Lewis 7' OVR 99 SF Sonny Brock 6'7" OVR 99 PF Gabriel Souza 6'7" OVR 92 SG Augustin Dalca 6'4" OVR 86 C Ronnie Armstrong 5'9" OVR 82 PG Junior Brock 6'3" OVR 82 SG Felipe Mondragon 6'5" OVR 81 PG Grant Riker 6'1" OVR 80 SG Ray Allen (NBA player. Will remain) PG Erdogan Akintola 6' OVR 79 C Roy Hibbert (NBA player.) SF Gordon Hayward (NBA) PF Darrick Farrington 6'9" OVR 74 SF James Johnson (NBA) |

So now, my task is to conduct 1 for 1 swaps of the various created guys who'll be dispersed around the league where I've also made other deals just to keep things interesting. These guys will be the role players which make my road to a title that much more difficult. When you see what guys are on these teams -- they're not all composed like the current NBA -- the trades will make way more sense than they do if you assume that people are where you think they are; because if they're a star they're probably not.
But because I'm building a title team, we're not gonna go out and get scrubs. We'll just have to put together a Big 3 using Sonny Brock and two NBA players. TRANSACTIONS Traded C Jonatarius Lewis to Detroit for C Andre Drummond Traded PF Gabriel Souza to Oklahoma City for SF Kevin Durant Traded C Darrick Farrington to Los Angeles for PF Pau Gasol (currently injured in my game file) Traded PG Erdogan Akintola to Charlotte for SG Dion Waiters Traded PG Ricky Bradshaw to New York for SG Tim Hardaway Jr. Traded PG Grant Riker to New York for PG Jeremy Lin Traded PG Junior Brock to Washington for PG John Wall Traded SG Felipe Mondragon to New York for SG Monta Ellis Traded C Ronnie Armstrong to Houston for C Kevin Garnett Traded SG Ray Allen to Cleveland for C Joakim Noah Traded SG Augstin Dalca to Minnesota for PF Kevin Love Traded Kevin Garnett to Indiana for SF Paul George Traded John Wall to Golden State for PG Steph Curry Traded Monta Ellis to New York for Grant Riker Sent Pau Gasol to San Antonio. So with those deals all done, here's the auto-gen lineup for the Seattle Sonics (Who will replace New Orleans in-game, but the divisions are shifted with OKC and SEA) C Roy Hibbert PF Kevin Durant SF Sonny Brock SG Paul George PG Steph Curry ---- Kevin Love Joakim Noah Grant Riker Jeremy Lin Dion Waiters Andre Drummond Gordon Hayward Tim Hardaway Jr. Joe Johnson No idea how good this team will be or how well they're going to mesh. I turned injuries off, just so that we can sim with everyone at full strength. According to the game's rankings, here's where our teams are: (OVERALL/TEAM/OFF/DEF) 1. Seattle (1/3) 27. Philadelphia (24/20) 20. Charlotte (27/26) 28. Milwaukee (23/30) 2. Chicago (8/4) 19. Cleveland (25/21) 17. Boston (18/25) 5. LA Clippers (6/5) 22. Memphis (22/13) 30. Atlanta (14/29) 14. Miami (16/6) 29. Utah (30/27) 25. Sacramento (19/28) 8. New York (10/11) 7. LA Lakers (3/23) 24. Orlando (29/22) 21. Dallas (12/18) 12. Brooklyn (21/15) 18. Denver (20/19) 3. Indiana (9/1) 11. Oklahoma City (11/2) 6. Detroit (7/10) 16. Toronto (17/17) 13. Houston (4/12) 4. San Antonio (2/9) 23. Phoenix (13/24) 26. Minnesota (26/16) 9. Portland (5/14) 10. Golden State (15/8) 15. Washington (28/7) So it's a wide open field, really. None of these teams are perfect, so it'll be a dogfight to a title. Let's get to work. |

NEW MISSION:
IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR Sonny Brock has left Seattle as a free agent to join the Washington Wizards to play with his son, Junior. We're going to see how good Brock can be without such a dominant cast around him outside of his own flesh and blood. I considered just playing through the playoffs with last year's setup, but instead, we'll actually run another season with Brock on the Wizards to see how the team does with this new infusion of leadership. Here's the roster: SF Sonny Brock C Al Jefferson PG Junior Brock PF Kenneth Faried PF Nene SG Bradley Beal SF Otto Porter PF Shane Battier SG C.J. McCollum PG Eric Maynor SG Martell Webster PF Perry Jones SF Kyle Singler SG Glen Rice Jr. PG Matthew Dellavedova C Hasheem Thabeet |

Oklahoma City beat the Spurs in seven games. So it'll be OKC v. Seattle in the Western Conference finals. Would love to see that someday. Almost as ugly as Browns v. Ravens.

Spurs had Tony Parker, Dirk, James Harden, Tim Duncan and Pau Gasol.
Thunder had Westbrook, Souza, Ibaka and I really expected San Antonio to pull it out, but OKC has more scorers and Westbrook put up 41 points in Game 7, which never hurts. Seattle is still loaded, so one has to expect they'll emerge victorious in that series. |

At the trade deadline, we picked up Jeremy Lin from Seattle for an energy guard off the bench. We traded Nene to Boston for Vitor Faverani. Also got Tony Allen from Memphis, Chandler Parsons from Houston and Mike Miller as a free agent pickup before the waiver deadline.
So the team looks like this: C Al Jefferson PF Kenneth Faried SF Sonny Brock SG Junior Brock PG Jeremy Lin Our bench is better equipped than we were at the start of the year, but this Bulls challenge is going to be much tougher than I think we've really been able to deal with. --- SF Chandler Parsons SG Tony Allen SG Bradley Beal SF Otto Porter PF Shane Battier C Vitor Faverani SG Glen Rice Jr. SG Mike Miller SF Kyle Singler PF Perry Jones C Hasheem Thabeet |

As I've done with the previous rounds, I sim until the elimination game and then I start playing. With the Bulls games, I'll play longer games than I was playing in the earlier rounds, mostly because well...I want to increase the likelihood we might be able to win.
GAME 1: Chicago 121, Washington 81 (Al Jefferson 15 pts. 14 rebs. in the loss, LeBron 26 pts. 8 reb. 7 assists, Wade and Rose both 20 pts.) GAME 2: Washington 104, Chicago 103 (James 31 pts/5 reb/6 assists, Beal 19 pts, Faried 10 rebounds) GAME 3: Washington 118, Chicago 102 (Sonny Brock 22 pts/5 reb/6 assists, Faried 14 rebounds, Lebron 29 pts, 10 reb 13 assists) GAME 4: Chicago 103, Washington 102 (LeBron an assist shy of another triple-double. Derrick Rose 30 pts. Wizards had seven scorers in double figures) GAME 5: Washington 110, Chicago 100 (LeBron 24/13, Rose 21 pts. Beal 24 pts and 5 blocks, Jefferson, 9 rebounds, Allen 8 rebounds) So we screwed around and actually put together a pretty good team in Washington? Let's not get carried away yet. I'm going to take over the reins for Game 6. 6 minute quarters, because I don't want to play all night. |

64-59 Wizards at halftime. Junior Brock leads all scorers with 30 points. Sonny Brock has 15 points. For Seattle, Grant Riker and Durant both have 11, Dion Waiters has 10.
If Seattle figures out how to stop the Brocks, this game will end how one expects. Otherwise, we might have a Game 7. |

91-87 Washington after 3 quarters, Seattle goes on an 8-0 run to start the 4th quarter and have taken a 95-91 lead with 6:41 left in the 4th. Paul George has 15, Steph Curry has heated up and now has 18. Meanwhile, Junior Brock only has 5 points in the 2nd half and Sonny hasn't scored at all. Jeremy Lin has chipped in with 14 pts off the bench, the only real thing keeping us in the game right now.

We retake the lead with 4:10, going up 103-102 after being down by as many as 5. With 3:31 left, Seattle retakes the lead and is up 107-103. Lin has 23 points now and I have to leave him in when the traditional lineup retakes the floor for the final 2 minutes of the game, because he's hot.
Steph Curry went HAM in the 2nd half, he has 20 points. With 2:46, Seattle leads 111-108. I THOUGHT I recorded the last two minutes of the game, but I didn't Fraps activated after all. Junior Brock hit a shot with less than 2 seconds left to put the Wizards up 125-122 to force a 7th game in the series. I was actually secretly hoping for overtime, this one was a back and forth game all the way. Seattle led with points in the paint 62-40, Wizards had 52 bench points in this one. So we'll have a 7th game and this time, if it's close, I'll make sure the video is activated. |

Finally the conclusion of our dynasty tonight. Sonny, Junior and the Wizards take on the Sonics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals in Washington. Shout out to Shorty for inspiring this turn in the storyline, I wouldn't have thought of it if he hadn't called my team out for being too stacked.
I have no idea why we're the top seed of all things, but...I'm down. Last edited by Young Drachma : 02-21-2014 at 06:48 PM. |

In-game house rule I created for myself to make this more difficult is that I can't shoot any 3s except with a 1:30 on the clock in each quarter. That'll level the playing field a lot since I tend to play pretty transparently from outside and assemble outside shooters more often than not.
Score is 32-27 Wizards at end of 1st quarter. 2nd quarter house rule is that we can only score points in the paint. 3rd quarter house rule is that our starting lineup from the 5:11 in the 2nd quarter through the end of the 3rd quarter has to be comprised entirely of our bench lineup of C Faverani, PF Shane Battier, SF Chandler Parsons SG Tony Allen and PG Jeremy Lin Last edited by Young Drachma : 02-21-2014 at 07:06 PM. |

Hafltime score is 57-52 Wizards. Grant Riker leads all scorers with 14 points, ironically the bench player who I left in Seattle as the only guy to be Brock's running mate is now trying to put the dagger into the heart to get his team their 2nd straight title.

With 4 minutes to go, Seattle leads 93-86. For the Wizards, Vitor Faverani has 16 points, Otto Porter has 15 with 5 assists and Jeremy Lin has 10 points and 9 assists.
Sonny Brock has only played 5 minutes, Junior 7 and together, just 16 points (though Junior has 8 assists to go with his 5 pts) and so...we're gonna see if they'll bail us out at the next stoppage of play. |
