Getting an early jump on this year...

Currently setup for 12 teams, but can be adjusted. Moved over to ESPN this year. I usually bash all things ESPN, but this looks pretty solid. Hopefully the link works

Since we are getting an early start, any interest in a thread draft here?

I'd love to do a draft thread here, as long as we have enough time

DOLA - Can't use the link you sent, get the following message

We're Sorry
Invite does not exist in LeagueMember

But it also tells me my team name is Montreal Maroons, so maybe that link is hardcoded for the one team that has already signed up?

I'll play again this year. Can we do a live draft this year or did we do one last year and I just missed it?

We did a live draft, but I don't think everyone made it.

I would think 2 weeks should be more than enough to draft. We'd need to draft 20 spots. Lineups would be:

2 C
2 RW
2 LW
2 F
4 D
2 Util
2 G

4 bench spots

Scoring categories:

Goals
Assists
PPP
SHP
+/-
PIM
Hat Tricks
Defense points

Wins
GAA
SV%
SHO

I'm open to any suggestions on reducing/expanding rosters, and additions/subtractions to categories

I really like the Defensive scoring category. Makes drafting D important.

Other scoring categories could be:

Splitting out PPG and PPA (and SHG and SHA)

Hits
Blocked Shots
Faceoffs won
GWG

Time on Ice
Shifts

TOI might be interesting...again, makes picking some D valuable who might not regularly get picked up.

Goalie stats I think we're pretty set. Other options are

Shots Against
Goals against
EN Goals against (which, really doesn't make sense to credit/penalize the goalie since, by definition, he's not on the ice)
Minutes
OT losses

Goalie stats are fine; none of the other categories adds much.

On the skaters' side, I like the TOI suggestion -- could replace hat tricks with it; I don't see much potential in that category. I also wouldn't split out SHP because there are not that many of those to begin with.

If I were to choose 8 categories, I would go with... Goals, Assists, PPP, +/-, PIM, Hits, Blocked Shots, and GWG.

As for rosters, I like the idea of an even number of lines. So maybe 9 starting forwards and 6 d-men? Could let 3 of the 9 forwards be flex positions.

Special Teams points is an option, combining PP and SH

Goals, Assists, PIM, +/-, STP, TOI, DPoints and....Hits or Blocked Shots? I think we used BS last year.

I really want to keep in D points, I think it adds a bunch. Especially if we go to 9 F, 6 D. If I could weight scoring differently, I'd love to be able to make D goals account for 1.5 or something.

Maybe 2 C, 2RW, 2LW, 3 F, 6 D, 2 G, actually reduces starting positions by 1 if we eliminate Util totally.

I don't mind either hits or blocks, but not married to the idea they must be included.

My thought is I like that it makes certain players more valuable because they excel in one or both those categories - someone like Ryan Callahan.

But I do dislike how they are so wildly inconsistent from building to building.

Bump

Still looking for players. Up to 5 at this point.

Hoping to do a thread draft here, so I'd like to start around 9/20, that gives us 10 days before the season begins, allows me to input rosters, etc

Once it's filled out, if we only end up with 10, I can shuffle teams

Thanks for the PM. I haven't done fantasy hockey in years, and I'm afraid my hockey knowledge is limited outside of the Rangers and the rest of WHATEVER THE FUCK THE DIVISION IS CALLED.

I'd be willing to give it a shot though if you are really trying to fill out a league. I'll do my best to stay up on it for the whole season.

Chief, at last look, there were 2 of 9 invited owners to not accept invite yet. I'll resend again.

Still looking for one more owner. Anyone??

If we get #10, I'll send invites tonight, and we can begin thread drafting tonight/tomorrow. Would give us about a week.

Just so I'm clear, are defensive points kind of a "bonus" category to allow them to be double-counted with goals and assists? Or are they being excluded from the normal G/A categories, only to be counted there?

Hmmm...I'm not able to view from work so not 100% on this.

My assumption is they are in the total G and A, as well as for D only points, but that's a good question. I'll review tonight.

That category can be changed still. I just thought it made getting a high scoring D more valuable than a mid level winger.

Will start draft thread shortly

I assume it's a defense-only category to promote picking defenseman who get points instead of ones who get PIM/hits, I guess. But yeah, it would presumably still count towards your weekly G and A.

I probably should have taken Crosby but I'd just feel dirty. Stamkos over Giroux is tough for me, but Stamkos is a goal scoring machine.

Well to me, it makes the guys like Weber (points and hits/PIM), Letang (same, lesser extent), and Karlsson (points) the most valuable players just outside of the top tier of forwards. Even top pairing, solid guys are going to struggle to break 40 points, unless truly elite, making them equal in alot of stat categories to 2nd/3rd line forwards.

I've had Crosby in fantasy before, and he's still probably the right choice at #1. Only potential downside is the injury history, but if he's healthy he's the #1 player for sure. I've got no problems building from a base of Stamkos though.

Nah I'm not too concerned yet. I think once everyone is in draft mode, they'll hopefully be able to check more regularly. He may not have checked in yet today to realize we're starting.
